This is Marcos Island - one of the many islands in Hundred Islands National Park, Alaminos, Pangasinan, Philippines. Beautiful, isn’t it?
When I saw this photo in my phone’s gallery, I can’t help but reminisce the good times I’ve had on this beautiful island. I love going to the beach even though I don’t know how to swim.
Do you know how to swim? If yes, how did you learn?

My only style in swimming that keep me floating is swimming like a dog.

@freelancermariagrace Are you from Pangasinan? I think the best thing to learn first is the floating part. If you can do it, then imagine that you are kicking a bottle or ball while in the water. That would do it.

With a teacher that was very strict but still I learned to take the left leg off the bottom of the pool and swim and became quite good at it and won a few races also.
That is a really lovely photo thanks for sharing it.

Its good to know how to learn to swim and even if you just sit on the shore and let the waves wash over your feet then that is something.

I know how to swim. I'm a self taught swimmer. I loved going to the beach when I was a kid and I was envious of those who could swim well. So I tried floating at first and the I did on my first try, I started to do freestyle.. Then when my son was 3 years old, he went to a swimming class and I listened to his instructor too. That's who I learned how to do backstroke and butterfly.

@freelancermariagrace If you want it you can do it. I was able to learn on my own because I wanted it.

Yes I know how to swim, I learned by going to the river every summer growing up. Can float good too. Love that picture!

@freelancermariagrace It just takes a little practice that's all. Just like with floating, the main thing is to learn how to relax. Have someone that you really trust to help, it wouldn't take long before you'd be swimming and floating about like a fish!

Not only do I know how to swim, but I am a certified water safety instructor (swim instructor). I have taught thousands of children and adults how to swim in my career. If I'm ever in the Philippines, I would be happy to give you swimming lessons. In the meantime, keep this in mind...water is your friend! It is naturally buoyant, and it wants to help you float on the surface. It's when you fight the water that it causes you to sink. So always remember that when you are in the water! If you relax and don't panic, water will help you stay afloat!

@freelancermariagrace That's the natural reaction for people who have had a near-drowning experience. It's mentally hard to get over that panic feeling. But when you panic that's when you get in trouble in the water.
No, I don't have any diving experience. I wish I would have learned when I was younger. There's nothing to stop me from learning now, other than I am very busy these days!

Wow, that's awesome, Jeff. Do you know how to dive as well? And thank you for the tips, by the way. I will keep that in mind. I tend to panic every time because I had a bad experience before. I almost drowned.

@freelancermariagrace I cannot float for a long time though. I think when you are so used to be in land when you go back to water you feel heavy and it takes time to float again.

Aww, that’s sad. I almost drowned too when I was younger. And that’s one of the main reasons why I had developed a fear in swimming
