A must in my kitchen

I try to ensure it is in my kitchen at all times. If I happen to run out of it, I have it replaced immediately, It is a must in my kitchen. What is it? - garlic. Apart from adding flavor to certain foods, garlic has countless health benefits. Back in the day, I used to catch colds pretty often - now I can barely remember how having one feels. I haven't had a cold in 16 years - and other viruses give me a wide berth. Of course 16 years ago I made other changes in my diet too so I won't attribute everything to garlic - but I have proof that it plays a major role. What spice, herb or other food ingredient is a must in your kitchen? And what ingredient would you hate cooking or baking without?

While I like garlic, I am very conscious of having unpleasant breath. I rarely use it. So, right now, I try to never run out of fresh hot peppers. It really adds to my supper. I view it as a complement when someone comes close to me and says that I'm really hot!

@Kandae11 Yes, some of those peppers are really hot! I have heard that parsley is supposed to nullify the awful smell of garlic but I never really believed it. I eat it at supper time when I know that I won't be close to people the next day.

Hot from pepper. Parsley or cinnamon combats a garlicky breath.

Every recipe has its own demands and so I cannot pick anything that needs to be there at all times. May be honey sugar, milk and tea I must have every single day.

Ginger and garlic, along with turmeric are a must for Indian households. They are really beneficial. All of them are basically antioxidants and have healing properties. Apart from that, I would love to have cinnamon! And breads for burger/sandwich too!

Basically the two main things that I use all the time is salt and pepper. I'm not to much of a garlic person, I like a little on my steak, that's about it. There was a woman that used to work with me that used garlic for health reasons. She consumed so much garlic you could smell it coming out her pores.

No matter how beneficial something is - there is a limit on how much one should consume. One does not have to go overboard to get the benefits.

When I lived in the city with my son, the Chikungunya virus was going around. It is a viral illness transmitted by infected mosquitoes . Almost everyone in our neighborhood came down with it. Our close neighbors and my son too. I looked after him until he was okay again - and I did not catch it.
