An unexpected visitor

I was naked as the eyes of a clown and ready for bed when I heard a knock on my door the other night at about 9:45 PM. Who the heck? It turned out to be one of the maintenance guys from our apartment complex. He speaks very little English, but was able to communicate to me that he had acquired a new/old table, and wanted my advice on how to restore it. He knows I restore vintage loudspeakers, and he's seen me and my young neighbor friend restoring tables and night stands outside. I threw on (the rest of) my clothes and went to his apartment, sandpaper, steel wool, and Orange oil in hand. I spent about half-an-hour there, giving him a quick lesson in where to use steel wool and oil only, how to sand with 150 grit, followed by 320, etc. It was kind of funny, as we were speaking in a mixture of (his) broken English and (my) broken Spanish. I hope the table turned out well. I'll have to check with him later today.

Did you get to listen to the John Prine song? I think that's where I got the expression. Its probably a "Midwesternism."

Yesterday dad asked me to call somebody at 9 pm and I refused. I got yelled at...the lady had tried to contact me twice and I was out of home. LOL

We finished it up today. He has to let the stain dry for a couple of days, and then he can put some protectant on the top.

He told me that he'd wanted to come over earlier, but saw that my young friend and I were in the pool. All's well that ends well.

I am just a "teacher" in this case. The owner will do the actual restoration. I hope it turns out to his (and his wife's) liking.

@vsai2008 Well, we both did some sanding the other night. And yesterday, we both stained it up. So it did turn out to be a collaborative project.

I thought it was Prine! Which song is that in? That's the Way That the World Goes 'Round? I gotta learn that one. Maybe right now! I have the morning off.

@FourWalls It's hard to find a bad John Prine album. I think my favorite is still the first, the blue hay bale one.

That's pretty neat. I hope it turned out well for the guy. That's very late to be knocking on someone's door with such a request though. I hope he saw your light on before he went knocking.

I'm pretty sure I had my lights on, as I was in the kitchen (I think) when he knocked. As soon as I knew a woodworking project was involved, I was up and ready to rock 'n roll.

This sounds like a fun visit . It happened to me too, trying to explain something in a different language, but nothing too complex. I think he learned a lot from what you showed him, even more than what you told him . Still, you should visit him again, maybe the table was turned into a chair...

Want to know the conversation of broken English and Spanish. I think it would be quite interesting.
