Mutual respect? Consideration? Being there for each other? Commendation? Or real, genuine love? What are your thoughts, insights, and experience on getting and maintaining relationships between marriage mates and good friends?

Very true Lucinda. Sometimes we can figuratively smother others because of wanting their time and attention geared towards us. As a result being demanding of the other person's time will and can put a strain on one's relationship.

Starmaiden I'd like to add to your wonderful comment: It's also called mutual respect when we are not demanding of one's time and attention.

I think communication is the key. If we can't communicate, it can't last..

Yes, yes those three qualities can make for a strong marriage, family and friendship. @Shavkat I have a question for you: At what point should a friendship stop being loyal to one another? What if the friendship is toxic to your well-being? Should you still continue being loyal to a toxic relationship? What do you think? I have my Bible based thoughts on the questions I've asked you.

@itslikethistome Personally, if I was betrayed and serious in any angles, I need to cut the bond of friendship. Having a toxic relationship is not healthy. Perhaps I need to stop being connected to this particular person.

Shubhu, honesty and loyalty is the sugar and spice of any relationship. It's the glue that holds all our positive investments that we put into a marriage and friendship, those 2 things cement and weld and make marriages and friendships last over the years.

@itslikethistome Having things in common helps with friendships and trust is also very important. Maybe not going through the same things but supporting someone whether you understand their situations or not.

Being there for each other is a strong foundation for a relationship to last. Then live and let the other live on their own terms - siva
