Those Stinkers!

Last month we bought ourselves two beautiful large orange mum plants and two beautiful large yellow mum plants for our son’s house. They looked fabulous against his yellow house. Yesterday, he had pizza at our house for dinner, since his wife was away at a theater conference for a few days. He told us that an animal munched half of one mum plant while we were all out at a restaurant on Sunday night. It ate the other half during the day yesterday. We don’t know what animal gobbled it up, but he’s leaving the other mum plant for whichever stinker is hungry. ~Photo is of Doodles the cat guarding our mum plant from other stinkers out and about!~

Even the chipmunks hide when they see him coming! He's chased deer, turkeys, birds, cats, dogs, a family, and other critters off the property. Yep, a family!

So Doodles is now guarding your mum plants. I wonder what animal ate half of the mum plants.

@DianneN It probably is a chipmunk who did that. A deer? have you ever seen one gaing there, ever?

@SIMPLYD Yes, we have seen herds of deer all over our yard. One actually climbed the front steps and came to our front door. Lol!

A chipmunk goes inside the planter, so Doodles likes to keep his eyes on him. . My son thinks a deer ate his, but isn't positive.

Sweet Doodles, how's he doing? I hope he's going to be ok, I don't like the way his lower back looks.

Oh good @DianneN in the shot above it looks like his lower back above his haunches is swollen, I'm glad I was wrong. Yep, it's still on.

@rebelann He does have a large haunch due to his long back legs, but he is fine, thank goodness. It will be over before you know it, and you'll be able to examine Doodles much better and very soon. While you recuperate, I will take plenty of photos for future discussions. My prayers go out to you and I'll be thinking of you. I wish I lived closer to help out. PM me when you are back on your feet to let me know how you are.

That must be a trick of the light. His back is fine. He's asleep next to me in front of the fireplace and listening to opera. I just felt his back to be sure. His daddy examines him every day, too. He's fine and went to visit Kuma's grave. He just stands there to pay his respects. How are you doing? I've been thinking about you. Is it still on for Thursday?

What a nice photo of cute Doodles. I am sorry about the plants, do you believe that it could be a deer?

@DianneN I know that deer eat everything they can find, but I am pretty sure that bunnies are not better. A big hug to Doodles and to you Dianne.

@LadyDuck It seems the mystery is solved. At least the mums lasted a good month before being discovered. Thank you and Doodles told me to thank you for the big hugs, but we shouldn't squeeze him too hard. He just finished breakfast.

I was just informed that bunnies and deer eat mums. My son has them in the woods behind his house. I don't know what I'd do without Doodles to kiss and hug right now. Thank you.

@DianneN That is very sad. That is why I do not have plants on my porch because I know Sophie will make a terrible mess and then I have to clean it up. It is bad enough the jerk above us has plants and lets anything fall down on us and he does not care.

@DianneN He certainly is but does not see that he does anything wrong. I have heard of hamsters eating each other but never saw a deer do that. I guess there is always a first. I am going to write you a PM about something

The critters can be a real nuisance. The rabbits eat my tomato plants, the chipmunks dig up my sugar snap pea seeds, the squirrels stir my seeds out of pots to place something else. I swear I am going to start finding recipes for these guys.

@DianneN maybe . The main problem is time, both me and my wife leave early (7:30 AM) and we usually get back around 19:00 (PM). A pet needs proper care and we can't provide that now.
