November Wettens

Ireland
November 9, 2018 11:09am CST
I got out in the garden this morning, and with some help, got lots achieved, turning over compost, trimming harvested bamboo canes, raking leaves. But it was windy and cloudy from the get-go, and come midday the heavens opened up and shed their load on us. Five hours later it's still pouring down. I guess it's typical November weather for this part of the world, and it's dark now at 5 pm. The shot above is looking out the window a couple of hours ago. Here comes winter! Some people find the shortening evenings depressing, but I feel a sort of cosiness as autumn starts to morph into winter. What's your feeling on that?

Well, I prefer longer daylight at night since I get up at 8 AM. I can't be selfish, if others want the light in the morning that's fine too.

@NormanDarlo I'm retired and so being late for work is no longer a concern.

You can always adjust your personal clock. But you might end up being late for work

@1hopefulman Still, I'm sure there are occasions when you arrange to meet up with people, or need to catch a train!

We have the same kind of weather and it's typical November weather, it rains every day. I do not dislike dark evenings, but I would like more light when I get up in the morning.

@NormanDarlo They waited too long, if the change was made at the end of September (as it was in the past) it would have been useful.

That's what the recent clock adjustment was meant to achieve, but its effect is rather short-lived.

@LadyDuck Ah, I didn't know the date varied so much, and I don't know whether it is co-ordinated between the different European countries.

I love cold weather but not having to wake up while it's still dark. I don't mind the early evening dark.

@NormanDarlo I really am in Japan, in western Tokyo. We don't change the clock here. That means that in the summer, the sun comes up at about 4:00 but still is down before 8:00 p.m. In the winter, the latest we have sunrise is about 6:30 which is still later than I have to get up, and the sun is going down about 5:00 pm now, but it will get earlier through December.

@petatonicsca Mind you, I visited Kyushu last year, which is further west and south than my home, and I thought the sun would never come up-- like about 8:00 a.m. in December. All of Japan is on the same time zone but I never thought how different it would be to the southwest.

There are so many people here with blatantly false locations, I seldom know who to believe. But I will assume that you really are in Japan, and ask you, do you adjust the clock there in spring and autumn?

Thanks, Courage! Yeah we have volunteers come help us in the garden in exchange for food and accommodation. Just started doing that this year and it has been a great success!

I feel the same Norman, after a couple of days I am now used to it and kind of embrace it.

@NormanDarlo It can be, like in life, no matter what happens, if we can't change it, we have to learn acceptance.

It's good to be able to accept what we can do nothing to change. Some find it very depressing.

we also experienced winter but not snow ... only the rainy season, and this sudden change in season might make someone feel uncomfortable as possible

@normandarlo I like whatever nature decides to send our way. Rain was torrential this afternoon here but it's still not really all that cold yet.

I can enjoy all sorts of weather, but sometimes winter overstays its welcome.
