Alojz Abram was a glass blower in Slovenia like his father and grandfather before him. Fifty years ago he came with his wife to Germany. When he was 59 years old he retired. He joined a gym, worked in his garden, played with his grandchildren. Until . . . His quiet life as an old-age-pensioner ended after eleven years. One Christmas, his 23-year-old grandson Jannik wanted to do something funny. He persuaded his grandpa to put on some of his own clothes - red-white sneakers, tennis socks, corduroy trousers rolled up over his ankles, a white hoodie with a neck pouch across his chest. He uploaded the photo on Instagram. Grandpa did know what the Internet was but had never come across Instagram. **Now he does know**! The photo took the net by storm. Grandpa went viral. Producers of young fashion swamp him in a way that he had to get a bigger wardrobe. One photo brings a four-digit price! As grandpa feels that he has everything he needs in life, the money goes to his grandson on condition that he must not neglect his studies. Should he ever do this, grandpa will stop modelling at once. When grandpa goes to the supermarket, youngsters come to him to make selfies. In the gym, musclemen clap his shoulder and envy him his 220.000 followers. He is also known in China, Indonesia and the Philippines. Meanwhile, one can’t see Grandpa only in cutting-edge streetwear, he also advertises other products. Business people send him their products and describe how they want them photographed and then Grandpa and grandson go to work. Grandpa is 72 years old now. Have a look at this extraordinary late-in-life career! ----- (I can't find out who to thank for the photo I've used here. Very likely, it's grandson Jannik. Whoever it is, 'Thank you'.) There are photos with a woman who is probably grandma, but she seems more an accessory.

All you can say, 'Good luck to him.' Is there really that much demand for older models?

It's not the older model as such that people like but the contrast between the old man and the cutting-edge street wear he's got on. Besides, he poses in a way that makes fun of the whole modelling business.

That's quite clever - they will have that claim to fame and no one can recreate what they've created here - others will be seen as copycats. Well good for him/them . . . something funny turned into a jackpot idea - and Grandpa is having fun with it !

I am a senior and wonder if I could give it a try - exposing my inner wear which is trendy these days

He is an accidental model. And now, he has lot of followers. Wow, can we call that luck? Or destined to be? Whatever it is, he still has his grandson in mind doing it. I hope he follows the request of his grandpa.

Same age as my husband, let me think about this. The little problem is that my husband looks a lot younger than this grandpa, he does not look a grandpa at all.

We really can't predict our fate and luck. While there are others thinking and working hard for it but never achieve the same status, there are also others whose career/fame would just bloom instantly. That just proves that everyone of us has his/her own time not matter how early or late it was started.

Genau "der hippe Großvater" - and a camera-happy relative with a keen sense for colour-match photography.

How cute is that? Maybe I can persuade Vince to 'dress up'. He certainly knows how to 'dress down'.
