Fake it Until You Make It

Yesterday I did what I'm sure many self-published authors hate doing. I visited an unknown to me book shop, a couple of hours from home, to promote my latest book.
This independent shop stocks only titles from New Zealand self-published authors and small publishing presses and has a following right throughout our country. The owners had expressed an interest in my books, so off I went.
I could have couriered the books, but those of you who know me may remember I like nothing better than a day in Wellington, our capital city - especially when the sun is shining.
However, I'm not all that good at placing myself in new situations and so follow the saying, fake it until you make it. Pretending I'm confident usually sees me through.
So there I was, armed with two of my three books, ready to sign a contract, pretending I was more confident than I really felt. However, the store owner soon had me feeling at ease and I forgot how nervous I had been.
And not only did she take copies of the two books, but asked me to also send her copies of my first book published in 2013.
Sometime's it's worth pretending to be brave and next time I won't feel so completely overwhelmed. I managed the new situation. Next time will be easier.

How nice. Glad it was a positive experience. It is worth pretending even if just for our own peace.

I am sure more of us do this than people think and not just women.

Pretending not to be scared, when you are, and doing the task at hand....hmm, that sounds like bravery to me. Good job,
