I wish each and everyone of the people here on myLot a happy and healthy old-fashioned Christmas. What is my version of an old-fashioned Christmas? It's one where the holiday spirit sneaks up on you slowly as you ponder what you will do or give to others on that special day. It's the work and love that is put into the thought of that special gift you will be giving. It is the anticipation of the family gathering on Christmas Eve to sit around the Christmas tree drinking a cup of hot chocolate, singing carols, and spending time enjoying your family. Waking up in the morning to gather round the tree again, this time to open gifts. It is watching your love ones with love in your eyes as they open their gifts and exclaim how wonderful they are. It's being with your loved ones, enjoying their company, and never forgetting the reason for the season.

I remember how me and my siblings spent our Christmas Eve with our parents. When I was in pre-school, we didn't have our own house yet. We live in a tiny two bedroom apartment and I have four siblings. Since I was the youngest, I slept in the living room with my parents. The two brothers shared a room and my two sisters too. Apple was something that's imported and back then the apples came only from California. It was expensive. I really wanted to eat an apple and we could only do that in December because it was the only month we could see apples and grapes in our country. My mother could only afford one back then and she would slice it into 5. The moment I tasted it, I was disappointed. It wasn't as delicious as I thought it would be. So no more apples for me since then. After a few years we had our own house. We each got our own bedrooms and our refrigerator was always full of apples, grapes, and oranges all through out the year.

@HazySue It's not the sweetness, it's the overall taste I don't like.

It's funny things and events we remember. How sad that the apple wasn't as sweet as you thought it was going to be.

Lovely post. Wishing you an old-fashioned Christmas as well. I try to rub on the same mindset to my kids when the holidays are here. At the dinner table, before we eat our Christmas meal, we pray for those who do not have anything to eat and for those who are away from their loved ones.

I wish the same for you!! My family is blessed to have an old fashioned Christmas every year. We may not be able to give or afford much but we enjoy reading about the birth of Christ, we enjoy singing worship songs, and enjoying each other's company. =)
