Hey Macarena

The Macarena was a popular craze from about 1995 to 1997. The dance was fun and famous but not too many took the time to listen to the actual words sung by Los Del Rio and later the Bayside Boys in a remix. It's about a woman who cheats on her husband who while he is drafted into the army.
It's been played at weddings which is strange considering the original words, happy events and and even on movies like Hotel Transylvania.
I remember at a work event we did the dance and had so much fun. Sometimes we listen to the beat more than we do words and meaning.
Did you dance to this song?
Here is the animation of Hotel Transylvania for fun.

You are right - we do tend to follow the beat of a song rather than listen to the lyrics. Maybe this is because many popular songs have lyrics which are boring or make little sense so we concentrate on the tune instead

@playertwo It's fun. Sometimes going against the ideas of others can be much more fun. Millions thought so.

@playertwo The rythym of songs such as this seem to induce a 'robot like' response from many people. Songs such as the 'Birdie Song' or '5-6-7-8' do the same.

@noni1959 I was really surprised at the New Years celebration last night that the DJ who was jamming the classic tunes didn't have the crowd doing the macarena. She played just about every other crowd favorite.

@moffittjc Definitely makes you wonder if she doesn't like the song or a rarity that has no idea about it.

I did dance to that song on many occasions but I will admit I never really knew the words or what it was really about.

I danced to it many times back in the day, and still do occasionally when it's played on the 90's music station. I never paid attention to the words, either.

I know the tune but I could never move like my daughters did. The boy in the Army was just a boy friend and she sometimes dreamed about having another BF just as she had other dreams. I just checked it and Spanish is my native language.
