Waves in the Area Rug

We just got home from playing tennis to find a text from our younger son. Apparently his family room carpet arrived, but it has waves in it after shipping. It was rolled, but folded in half due to the size.
He asked us how to get rid of them. I could only come up with putting heavy books on them and making sure the padding was smooth.
Any suggestions my friends?
Doodles the cat photobombed the photo, naturally. lol

It should start smoothing out over the next few days.

I had a rug like this once and most wrinkles came out within a couple days of walking on it but there were a couple big ones and I took a wet towel wrung out really well and laid it across the wrinkle then used an iron on a steam setting and ran it over and over. Don't let it linger in one spot and don't iron directly on the rug. I'll be getting a rug soon as my cabin is done and I know I'll be doing this again.

Thank you! That's another great idea. That carpet is so darn heavy. I've received good tips here to pass on, and the store will exchange it if it's not flattened by the end of the week. He seems to think it's a bit better. Never a dull moment!

I see Doodles. He could always return it but that would probably be a pain.
This happened to a friend and this is what she did.... Tape it down. Double-sided carpet tape is available in furniture and home improvement stores. Apply this tape to the back of your rug; then remove the paper covering the adhesive and smooth the rug over the floor. Press the tape down firmly, smoothing it as you go. Carpet tape works on hard floors and on existing wall-to-wall carpet, holding your rug in place to flatten existing creases and eliminate new ones.

They should not have folded it. Even I know that. Maybe they ask the company that sold them them the carpet or another carpet company.

@DianneN Wow, that's a good company! Let us know how it goes and what he has to do to enjoy his carpet.

Maybe a bit of steam from an iron (not very hot) would help.

@WiseGhots If the iron is not too hot, the steam will not ruin it.

I've got access to a big steam roller if you want to run it over that carpet a few times! lol

Doodles would love to cuddle on that new carpet. I don't know how it can be stretched, but maybe after some stepping on it, it can be straightened.

Have it steamed, either professionally or go buy an inexpensive home steamer and do it yourself.
