This Revenge is Going to be Sweet!

This weekend our paintball team played in a tournament in Lakeland, FL, and we were fortunate enough to make it to the finals on Sunday afternoon, although we lost to a pro team we were matched up against. After our defeat, our coach was really upset and lit into us about how bad we played. We had to stand there in the freezing cold rain and listen to him yell at us for about 10 minutes before he finally let us leave the field to pack up and go home. While packing up our gear, we all decided to go eat dinner together as a team at Buffalo Wild Wings.
As soon as we were all seated, each of us immediately pulled out our cell phones and started texting and posting on social media. It was quite comical. One of the guys got everyone's attention and said we were going to play a game. Everyone had to put their phones face down on the table, and no one could touch or look at their phone during the meal. He then said that the first person who picked up their phone would lose, and the penalty would be that everyone else would get to shoot him at our next paintball practice. Everyone readily agreed and put their phones down.
About 15 minutes into our dinner, our coach mentioned that he wanted to make us some gun stands to hold our guns when we were in our team tent between paintball games at tournaments. I asked him if he was going to build them out of wood, and he said that he was thinking about PVC pipe. I told him I had never seen one made out of PVC pipe, and he said, "Here, I'll show you. I have a picture." He then picked up his phone. Immediately the rest of the team members started pointing at him and laughing and telling him he lost the phone game we were playing. I had totally baited coach into picking up his phone!
At the end of our next team practice, coach has to run the gauntlet (run from one end of the paintball field to the other, and then back again) while all of us teammates shoot him with our paintball guns. He is going to be one hurting, bruised and sore puppy when we get done with him!
But how fitting that after all of us got our butts reamed out by him today, we get to exact our revenge on him at practice. I know he is definitely not looking forward to this!
If the photo loads, it's our coach walking off the field in disappointment after we lost our championship game today.

We do have to be careful though....he is still our coach, and he still runs our practices, so he can make our life a living hell at practices if he wants. So we'll probably be very careful where we shoot him at as he's running the gauntlet, as well as how much we shoot him! But, yes, it will be fun to see him squirm as he's running up and down the field getting shot at by all the players.

@moffittjc Yes, he can make your lives hell for sure. Still be nice for him to squirm.

@noni1959 We'll go easy on him. He's a pro players himself, so it's not like he doesn't know what it's like to get sprayed with hundreds of paintballs. We'll all probably just shoot him one time and be done with it. We'll have a little fun, but we'll quickly get back down to business.

The funny thing about the photo is that I am hiding behind the tall guy in white so that I didn't have to feel the wrath of coach! haha
The greatest thing about me baiting the coach into picking up his phone was that I didn't even know I was baiting him!

@DianneN I'm the oldest guy on the team, so coach holds me to a higher expectation. Always wants me to be the leader out on the field. I don't want to be the leader, I just want to run around like a crazy madman and shoot my opponents! haha

We decided that next time we have a team dinner that we are going to play the game again....but next time whoever picks up their phone during the meal will be responsible for paying the bill.

@just4him We had a team dinner last night at the conclusion of day 1 of our 2 day tournament. Not one person picked up their phone while we ate! Nobody wanted to be the one to pay the tab for the entire group!

It's okay that we lost, we are only a semi-pro team and we played against a pro team. A semi-pro team should never beat a pro team. There would be hell to pay if we did! lol
I think coach thinks we will go easy on him and only hit him with one paintball. But amongst all us players we are talking about unleashing a fury against him. Of course, right now that is just talk, we'll see what actually happens when we get out on the field.

He wasn't upset, he was just disappointed. He just sees great potential in us as a team, so he really pushes us hard to be the best we can be.

Wow, it sounds like you are really into paintball. I doubt there are too many people of my age playing..but I would like to try it once..with protective gear. My son has played and said it really stings when you get hit with those pellets.

It does sting pretty bad, but not to the point that it takes the fun out of the game. Most paintball fields do offer protective gear for women and children who play. Many people are surprised at how many women enjoy playing.
Yes, I love paintball. I play in the pro circuit, which is a much different game than what you would play as a recreational player. Our league is very intense and competitive, and also very expensive until such time as you get picked up by a sponsor.

@jstory07 Of course I say that now, but on Saturday when we have team practice I will probably just shoot him one time in the arm or something.

I plan on getting him good. I'm going to shoot him right in the butt...that way it hurts when he tries to sit down, which will be a reminder to him of what he did! LOL

@LadyDuck He was fine the next day. We got together for lunch to talk game strategy, and he was his normal, happy self. He's a good coach, he models the example of how to win and lose gracefully.

He definitely is not happy in the photo. He's walking away from us in disgust with his head held low. He was very disappointed.

It would have been much more fun for us if we could have shot him the same day we lost the tournament, when our disgust was more prevalent. However, it's now a new day, emotions have settled down, and by the time we get out to the field for practice we'll all be calm and happy again. We'll probably go real easy on the coach when he runs the gauntlet.

Thanks, it's okay that we lost, we were up against a pro team that was much better than us. Even though our team is in the semi-pros, we don't have the skill level yet that these pro players have.

To make it to the finals and lose to a pro team should not have called for y'all be chewed out. He may think twice the next time after your practice especially if it is during the wet wet cold front that is coming your way from here which is bringing the first hard freeze here.

He is a pro player himself, so he has great aspirations for our team. He sees things as a pro player that we don't see since we're only in the semi-pros, and he pushes us hard because he wants us to get to the next level. I admire that, and as a team we also know that adrenaline runs high during tournaments, so we don't take it personally. When we show up for team practice, everybody will be calm and happy and we'll study game film and run drills and such in a normal fashion just like the team is supposed to do. We'll figure out what mistakes we made, and then focus on improving those skills during practices. We have a friendly coming up this weekend (a fun tournament that doesn't count in the standings), and then our next official tournament is 2 weeks away. That gives us plenty of time to work on our weaknesses.
