Thank You and What a Night

First, I want to thank those of you who suggested ways to find out if a close friend was attending the same party as I, without hurting her feelings if she wasn’t. Your suggestions were great, but my husband, being a typical guy, blatantly asked her husband if they were attending. Yes or no, no BS. They were! Second, the by invitation only Super Bowl party was a huge success! We had a wonderful table facing our new clubhouse TV, but barely anyone watched the game. We ate, drank, and socialized. Our friends joined my husband, brother, and me at our table. In addition, our famous playwright and movie screenwriter and his wife joined us. I also made new friends and my husband and I were invited to play pickleball with them. Something new to learn! So, I didn’t see the game, or commercials, or much of the halftime show. What a night! ~Photo is mine outside The Seafood Bar at The Breakers Hotel~

What I'm wondering is how you are able to mylot when you said you were in jury duty, or was that only for the month of January?

@MarshaMusselman Huh? I haven't been called to jury duty for 15 years. Never had to serve.

From what I heard on the radio, you didn't miss much as it seemed that many were disappointed. Better to talk to friends than to watch TV. You can watch the commercials any time.

@DianneN I think the game was only an excuse to have a party.

Agree! We enjoyed being with people from both buildings. It was a fun night, especially since our team wasn’t in the game.

Men are not subtle . Well I'm glad your friends were invited and went. We saw it at my parents' house as we were also celebrating my dad's birthday. Rams are big here, but we're not big on football ... except we do watch Super Bowl for the commercials and halftime show at least . . . believe me you didn't miss anything .

@DianneN I didn't realize you wanted the Rams to win - I would have thought Patriots because of the New England factor. Aw well, yep - Rams didn't win and lots of people are bummed out. The whole game and everything in between were blah anyway - partying and eating and chatting was much more worth the time!!

@much2say We strongly dislike Tom Brady and the Patriots, even though they are a New England team. We are NY Giants fans and the Giants won the last two Super Bowls against the Patriots and Brady they were in. We rooted for the Rams only because they were playing in the Super Bowl. lol. My husband was born and raised in NY and our older son lives there. Besides, Dr. Jay is from Boston and a die hard Pats fan. Now we are sick that karma hasn't taken effect.

What a nice way to celebrate your dad's birthday. Sorry the Rams lost. I only get excited when the NY Giants are in the Super Bowl, since my husband and both sons are Giants crazy. Even though we are from New England, we dislike Tom Brady and the Patriots, so were hoping the Rams would win. I am happy that we partied and missed everything! And thanks. I was very happy our friends were invited and were there.

@DianneN it would be interesting to know how the name originated. We're in a bit of a pickle, we haven't made the net high enough and we've not got the right equipment. Oh well, let's invent a new game

@valmnz Lol! Actually, the inventor named the game after his dog, Pickles. I assume Pickles ran onto the tennis court and ran off with the balls.

I was going to say that surely that photo isn't of your clubhouse, so I'm glad I surmised correctly. I've never heard of pickleball before. At first I thought it was picketball and then read it again, unless your fingers added an extra letter pershaps? Is it a real game or more like arm or finger wrestling?

No, it's called pickleball. It's a more gentle game of tennis played on a court with paddles and whiffle balls, I believe. The net is 4 inches lower. Lol! Our clubhouse isn't that elegant.
