Sometimes I wake up grumpy in the morning - but sometimes I let him sleep in

We went to a funeral today. The deceased was just a few days’ short of 96 and had been suffering from Alzheimer’s. Everyone who spoke of the lady said they had never seen her sad. She was always happy and positive. She had been a war bride from Queensland and had sailed on a ‘bride ship’ to live with her American husband. Later they returned to Australia. I thought what a nice thing to have said about you – no-one could ever remember her being sad. Maybe it is easier for some to always be positive but it is also, I think, a decision we can make. Some mornings I wake up grumpy (and sometimes I let him sleep in!) but I make a conscious effort to be pleasant in the mornings. Some people I know always seem to start the day in a bad mood. Sometimes it is possible to make a decision to react in a particular way in a certain situation. Sometimes it’s a choice to be happy in the mornings or miserable. The photo is of topiary bushes in a small country cemetery near here.

I try to stay on the positive side of life. I may slip to the negative side but really not all that often. I think it is a wonderful way for people to remember your friend - the fact that she was never sad. Sorry for your loss.

@HazySue Thanks. I think it is a very old joke but it seemed like a good title.

Love the bushes. Sometimes you cant help just waking up in a bad mood. Staying there is the choice.

That's true. It isn't always easy but you can 'decide' to change your outlook if you want to bad enough.

Love the topiary! I can't say that I've never been sad. Losing loved ones always make me sad. However, I'm pretty chipper most of the time and wouldn't want to be a Debbie Downer. That was a lovely thing to say about her.

You've got a good point there but if some people do not know what is available for them they just sit and wait until the end. That is what my mom did.

That is one thing I am grateful for. I am never moody. But I do not have to be in a bad mood to be nasty (lol)

Bad mood and nasty don't necessarily go together do they? In fact for some, being nasty seems to improve their mood.

I'm always happy, being alive is a great thing and I'm thankful for that. I have a beautiful family and a good job, why should I be in a bad mood in the morning? Bad things happen, but there's always a solution, all we have to do is find it . So, this is me, happy every day, sometimes my mood changes, but I recover quickly. Take weather for instance. We had ugly days after ugly days. I don't like it at all, I need sunshine! But I also have sunshine in my heart, as long as it's there, then there's no need to worry .

I understand that. Different people have different personalities. My morning is always good. So im always positive. The negative side of me is that im not cool when it comes to dealing some stuff. For example, i bought a charger for my ipad and when i arrived home, it wasnt working. When i returned to the mall, i was really angry but not to the point that i would shout at them. My voice was high, something like that. I dont like being cheated on something because i dont do that to people. Thats why i get angry when someone does it

It is hard to accept a behaviour that you don't accept in yourself. I hope they replaced your charger without any hassles.

@JudyEv they did thankfully. The very thing that made me angry was that the mall was really really far from me and so inconvenient to come to. By the way, thats a lovely picture.

Too bad that we didn't all get to meet her. RIP Makes me wonder if anyone I know offline thinks I'm grumpy at times? I may wake up tired, not wanting to get out of bed, not wanting to do anything but I don't think grumpy. Of course, grumpy would be a description somebody else might use but see myself as grumpy!

I can't imagine you being grumpy. The thing is whatever feeling you have it does impact on other people so starting the day happy can help others to be more positive about their day too.

The shrubbery is so beautiful. The lady had a good sense of humor. 96 was a nice old age. More and more people seem to be living longer. I had two uncles that were 103 and 101 and all the rest of my dads siblings were in their late 80's and 90's. My dad was 94.

@JudyEv Some people say they wouldn't want to live that long but as long as I can function and know what is going on around me I am fine thinking that way. My mom had a massive stroke leaving her in a wheel chair and she had alztheimers. I wouldn't want either of those diseases. I always remembered her in her later years doing nothing but watching tv in her chair. My dad was always outside and after he got her up in the morning and fed he would put her in the living room with nothing to look at except the window.

@ramapo17 That is very sad for your mother. There needs to be a better way to spend our last days than sitting in a chair or lying in a bed all day but for some that's what happens.

I've never woken grumpy, at least not that I can recall. I usually wake up bright and cheery. It's rare when I don't, but it happened about a week or so ago when I felt like I needed a few more hours of sleep, but I got through the day. That is a wonderful thing to say about someone. If it's not a conscious effort to be happy, it should be. I love the picture. The center bush reminds me of the Mad Hatter's hat.
