Sometimes Being Cheap Doesn't Pay Off

Are you a cheapskate? Generally I wouldn't consider myself a cheapskate but I do like a bargain and would rather pay less for something than more. I'm assuming most of us fall into this category.
A few months ago our toaster died and I needed to get a new one. I wanted a four slice one that would toast bagels, etc. So, I went to my favorite place to shop...Amazon.
They had a huge selection of toasters but they seemed expensive to me so I opted for a cheap one.
What a disappointment.
It takes forever to toast a slice of bread even if the setting is on high. Every time I use this darn toaster I get mad so today I'm going to have to look for a new one.
Long story short....my cheap turned out expensive because now I'm out the money I paid for the one I hate and now have to spend the extra cash for a new one.
Lesson learned. I should have just bought the same one I had which I liked and was about $20 more than the one I got.
I'm so mad at myself.

That’s the saying you get what you pay for comes in. Sometimes cheaper is junky. I did the same thing with buying a toaster a few months ago but I looked at the reviews and went with a few dollars more for one with a better rating. I hate it though as it pops up so hard the bread fly out onto the counter.

You're right @shaggin especially in this case. My toaster is junk
I have to laugh though at your toaster popping your toast out onto the counter!

Cheap isn't always bad, I go by the reviews when I buy something. I will pay a little more for a better reviewed product.

Sorry you have to spend more money on the same thing. Ours is a 2 slicer from kmart for $10 i think. No problems with it. Thankfully. But i thought we might have had some with how much it cost. However. We dont use it often so we didnt want to pay more for something we wouldnt really use.

I would expect it to toast better than it does and the other thing I hate is it's so lightweight it just slides around

It has happened to me. I sometimes get cheaper things and end up realizing that buying a more expensive item would have cost less than the one I bought

Don't be mad at yourself. It's a lesson learned. Now you know to watch out for that brand and perhaps not get it again. I'd also leave a review on amazon so that others can beware of it.
I am a cheapskate in a lot of ways myself. I've often had to eat money.

Generally, no, I’m not a cheapskate. I’ll buy soft drinks at Wally World because they’re $1 there and $1.79 at Kroger, and that’s just wrong to pay almost the cost of a second soft drink. But “lowest price” and “best quality” aren’t always two concepts that go hand in hand. I mean, I have a Macbook....hardly an inexpensive computer!

I've learned that sometimes it's better to see something in person before I buy it. I still order on line, but a few times, the item wasn't what it appeared to be. And yes, I've ended up spending more in the long run.

I just figured a toaster is a toaster so no big deal but I guess I should have paid more attention to what I was buying

You have to spend more money in most cases I think. Why as expensive things generally last longer. Also you had to pay more. So sorry for that.

Been there done that, and have Bad appliances to show for it. Now when we buy something most the time we stick to brands and products we know and Love and have for yrs. Many times when it comes to that, it really does make a difference in what you choose.
