If You Don't Like a Book... what do you do?

I might be all alone in this, but I'm curious. If you go to the library, and grab a book that looks good... but you find that you aren't interested after reading the first chapter, what do you do? And what about the cover... is that ever a deciding factor when you pick up the book?? Even a little??
For me... I have to read it to the end... just in case it gets better lol!
Anyway, sending out hugs to anyone who might be in need of one!! Time to follow up with my comments. Can't believe how fast they add up!! Will be back later. :)

I will continue to read it to the end all the while hoping that it will get better. The cover is usually not a decided factor of me taking the book to read. I like to look at it but, sometimes the cover does not portray the story inside.

Sometimes the cover puts me off the book! I'm sure the author would be happy about that lol!!

@Hate2Iron You have to be so careful when choosing the cover.

@MALUSE I usually know that I am not going to continue a book after 30 to 40 pages. If someone has nothing interesting to write in the beginning, I expect nothing good for the end. A marketing professional we knew used to say "No matter who can start a discussion, only smart people know how to end it." This is the case for authors.

If once I started reading a book I will go till the end. Otherwise I feel its a wastage of time to start and left it in the middle.

Whenever I see a book, I always would read the brief description. Then I would go to the last chapter if it is a happy ending for the protagonist., If it is not, I don't read it .

Ah, I tend to "Skim" it , if it just isn't grabbing me. But that doesn't do it justice, either.

I will return the book to the shelf and then find another one to read.

Hmm, well sometimes I stick with it, and other times I just discard it. I had one recently, that was OK, I was curious to read it to the end,,but it took forever, because I wasn't really "into it." I have had a few others like that though, I just gave up on.

I have only read onee book in my life which I did not like at the beginning. I´m glad that I passed the first pages as I could not let it down later on.

Thanks for the hug, I needed that.
Sometimes, books start out slow and get more interesting. I read lots of books like that and was glad I kept on when the plot got good. Sometimes, books are just badly written and I put them on the free shelf in the laundry so someone else might see it in a different way. I don't get books from the library. I buy them at sales and thrift stores and keep them moving on when I am done. Some I know I want to read again in a year or two, those are keepers.
