Do you like self checkout in the supermarket?

self checkout

Here the self checkout is available in the supermarket and I like it. As usually no more customers use it and it is faster for me to checkout in this way. It is quite convenient. But sometimes I still have to pay in the traditional counter as some discounts are not available for self checkout

I never used it and refuse to. It puts people out of jobs.

@DianneN It's not the case here Dianne, the regular number of cashiers has not changed. The self checkout are an addition to avoid lines. I use them all the time, we have many cashiers from Italy that are not very kind with the goods you buy. I hate to have my things "handled" like garbage.

I prefer not to use it, as something always seems to go wrong. And I really hate the ones that talk to you. I talk back. I can see some advantages, but only if things work correctly.

I don't really like it, 'cause there's always some stuff that's messed up. Plus, if they want to save money on having me do the job, it should be cheaper, and it isn't. So I use the normal checkout even in the few places we have the self checkout

I also like a lot the self checkout, especially when I only have a few items, it's faster.

@LadyDuck Here usually the cashiers will not work like that. But I don't like to wait or a long line.

@youless There are some cashiers that are in a hurry and are not very careful with your stuff. This is another reason why I prefer self checkout.

We have it in one store here and that too for less items. You should have less than 5 items and the items should have no discount or offer on them. But payment has to be done on the near counter. I have never used it though.

I just saw this last time when I was in supermarket. It's a new thing here. I haven't try it yet, but like you said, sounds it will be faster to use it.

@youless Probably, I hate spening so much time in a line when only one or two checkouts are working...

My only beef with this idea is that it will eventually close down all regular checkouts and cost many their jobs. Several big stores have already announced this happening soon.

Unfortunately there is none in my place. I guess most supermarket still doubts the customers that they would slip out some items from the store. But when I went to the US and Singapore I saw that they are having this self check out already. It is pretty convenient to do so and less hassle since you will do the swiping of the items and do your own packing of the goods. If you are in a hurry doing your grocery shopping this self check out is the fastest to go since there is less line in this area.

The supermarket is nearby my home. So I like to buy a few things when I need it and I just checkout bymyself. It is convenient.

@youless We also have it in our supermarket too but I do not like it. When a clerk that I liked that at the checkout working she helped me out and when I wanted to pay in cash and not use my credit card she went over to another clerk and explained it so I could pay cash. I do not really know how to use them and also do not want to use my credit card.

@youless Only one store that I regularly shop at has card-only self checkouts. Most places are equipped to handle both.

For me there are good and Bad when it comes to having to use them. Overall many times they can be faster, but there are things that just never seem to work when it comes to that so many times we prefer to not use them

If you buy a lot of things, perhaps it is better to use the regular counter as the staff will pack your things well for you.

I like them when they work properly! It's much faster for me to go through the self-service checkout than to go to go through the traditional counter. It's only really a problem if the checkout glitches - and the main problem in some places with that is with staff who stand around chatting, paying no attention to the tills!
