I just found out that I'm a daddy!

I've mentioned that I have a pretend daughter in Colorado (she's 20) and a pretend son two doors down (he's 10), but I just found out today that I'm a relatively new "daddy"! I worked with the older kids at my friend's preschool today, but the little kid room (1 1/2- to 2 1/2-year-olds) is right next door, and their playground is right next to the one in which I worked today. A little girl name Hennessy (an early two) kept calling my name today so I could watch her slide down the slide and perform other amazing feats about which she was very proud. A few times she called me "Horse" (my real name), but for most of the day she just called me "daddy." I can't tell you how much it warmed my heart. I don't know her family situation, but I certainly don't mind being a "daddy" in her eyes. Do you like being called mommy, daddy, grandpa or grandpa as much as I do? I'll attach a picture of another little Latina girl I worked with years ago (for whom I was also her favorite first male adult). I don't have one of the little girl who currently calls me "daddy."

Yes I had one I took care of ask could he call me mom, I told him no because he already has a mom, so he said "Can I pretend?" and I agreed that would be okay.He was about 3 then. That was sweet of you to allow her to call you dad and not correct her.

Oh, heck no! She was happy as a clam and I was not gong to rain on her parade. I talked to her head teacher just now and she DOES have a real dad at home. Many of the kids I work with do not. So men who treat her nicely are "daddy" to her right now. I'm cool with that.

There is a special place in my heart for 1 1/2- to 2 1/2-year-olds. The notion that they're "terrible" is absurd to me.

I agree it would give a nice feeling as they are too innocent at this age. They call it from heart.

Yeah...I unfortunately always end up being identified as father's sister. Never mom.

Many of my younger children in school have accidentally called me mommy especially when too excited during playtime. It feels good. I am sure you would have enjoyed it.

@TheHorse I feel so loved. And sometimes a little older ones who are five and six years just get embarrassed and give a shy smile when they realize it or when their friends laugh at that.

I don't mind, my friend. My little niece thinks that I am his second daddy. It cannot be denied because I am his godfather.

@TheHorse A friend of mine who married and lived in our friend's country said that they do not have the gender specifics in nouns and pronouns that we are used to and that you will often see this mix. He said his wife often talked about the daughter as "him". It is just nice that we know that Shavkat's niece loves and trusts him.

Kids are not concern with political correctness. Too bad they lost this honesty when they become adults. Curious, would it feel awkward for you if she calls you "daddy" in front of her real dad?

That kind of happened once. One of my kids said "I wish you were my daddy because we could go anywhere and have things to talk about." Her mom was there. I forget exactly what I said, but I think it was the "right" thing so say.
