Do you like your showers cold, medium, or HOT? (Am I a closet heroin addict?)

I've always liked spicy food, and I eventually learned that when we eat spicy food, it leads to the release of endorphins in our brain. Endorphins are our body's natural opiates, and they bind with the same receptor sites in our brains as Vicodin and heroin. Endorphins reduce pain and give us a feeling of calm and well-being. Yesterday, as I was in the shower, I realized I like my showers as hot as I can tolerate, even if the weather is warm. As I was soaping up my left arm pit, I wondered if really hot showers lead to the release of endorphins in the brain as well. This morning, I Googled it, and the answer is yes. Some people are adrenaline junkies. They like climbing up dangerous cliffs and jumping out of airplanes and such. I am not, and do not. But I may be an endorphin junkie. How do YOU like your food and your showers?

It depends on the time of year. In the summer I enjoy cool showers.

I don't mind a cool swim. But I still like my showers hot. I must be an addict.

@thehorse Cold. Cold showers are actually more tolerable in winter than in summer and I always feel most exhilarated afterwards. Swimming in the North Atlantic, off the west coast (of Ireland) is my thing too.

Yikes! How cold is the water there? I used to swim in the Pacific in Santa Barbara. But the water is too dang cold up here in the San Francisco Bay Area.

@louievill Oh oh. Be careful! Heh. Actually, I think doing things that leads to the release of endorphins is healthy.

Does that mean you're half way to being an endorphin addict? Heh. Exercise and "making whoopie" also lead to the release of endorphins.

I like spicy food, I cannot take too hot showers (not baths), because of my hearth problems. Also my husband has been forbidden to take hot showers and baths, no problems for the spicy food. Dark chocolates also releases endorphins in our brain.

I definitely love spicy food. I'm only a mild adrenalin junkie. And I like taking cold showers, strictly because it's like 12,000 degrees outside here in Florida right now.

@TheHorse I'm lucky I work at a pool, so I get to swim everyday. And we cool our swimming pool water using geo-thermal technology, so it's nice and cold, which feels great after being out in the sweltering Florida heat. Otherwise, I would have just melted like a crayon under a magnifying glass by now.
