If You Needed Food

If you needed food and was having a rough patch, what is the type of groceries you would hope someone would help with? Not pasta, rice, ramen and those type of carb foods but good food with or without meat, nutritious etc. Tomorrow evening, I'm meeting up with the family my kids and I are helping and today I grocery shopped for them. I have roast, cheese, bread, hot dogs, oranges, veggies, stuffing, eggs, pie, and quite a bit more but feel there is something else I need to get. Years ago, I had a hard time for a couple months and food was gold. Having peanut butter and beans in the house for protein was a must but we wanted treats now and again like a pizza or frozen chicken wings. I hope you all are doing well.

If it is fine to bring fresh food your list is perfect, I would add canned fruits, may be ground beef and some cans of beans, they could make a good stew or a chili and it's a great source of protein.

@LadyDuck I picked up several fruit, vegetable and cans of beans plus dry staples. She cried so much. I hope things get better for them. My heart broke.

i lived off beans, taters, corn bread fer quite a few years. that'n what came out'ta the garden. fer me, staples - flour, sugar, corn meal, cookin' oil, toilet paper. peanut butter 'tis good. can't help ya with yer query coz i've no knowledge 'f whether these folks cook. 'tis a tad shockin' the number 'f folks who've no knowledge how to cook from scratch. dunno if'n the adults'n the family 're workin', so time 'tis a factor fer meals either. 'tis a very sweet thingy yer doin', hon.

@crazyhorseladycx i know but they are the more stable home for safety. I'm sure they could get food stamps to help awhile. When they started the custody battle they were doing well. He lost his job then found one with lower pay and then she lost hers and same thing. There are a lot of layoffs lately She's picking up more hours and they may move closer to the city so he can find a better job.

They both work but minimum wage and she has POTS so hard for her at times. They have five kids with a court battle to get custody of his four from a prior marriage. They also live in a small town. She does cook as she can and thrilled knowing a roast is coming. Cooking oil, flour, sugar are great to add. I'm going right before meeting up.

Their work hours are crazy and she is tired especially with her illness. I bought a roasting bag with seasoning so it's easy. She has a 12 year old who is learning to cook so simple to make be good.

Any kind of pasta and sauce which will go along ways. Beans, rice and cheese is good to. Bread and peanut butter and jelly to make sandwiches with.

Your list sounds like a good one. I worked with a lady who went thru a rough patch, and her and her teenage daughter were hungry. I went to the grocery store one day to get our groceries and whatever I bought I bought for her, milk, eggs, fruits, vegetables, bread, cheese, red meat, poultry similar to your list. Her daughter couldn't believe it when I stopped at their home to drop it off. She cried and texted her mother who wasn't home, and then ran over to me and gave me a huge hug and told it was from her mother. People, giving or receiving, do not forget such acts of kindness.

That was so sweet of you. Last year a woman placed a post in our local community page asking if anyone could give a can or two. She wannted to fill up her ex step-dad's kitchen. He was raising a teenage daughter putting all his money into the house and her needs so they had little in food. I bought quite a bit to help as did others in the community. She filmed him coming home into a full kitchen. He cried and cried. It warms my heart the people who help.

All good things. I always add tuna and whole turkeys, ground beef, and healthy items like fresh fruits and vegetables. We dropped off a huge supply for Thanksgiving as we do every year.
