It must be hot today

So I’m sitting here minding my own business myLotting when I suddenly spotted a sleepy lizard (Tiliqua rugosa) half in the dish of water at the base of the birdbath. He came for a drink yesterday too. It must be hotter today as he is half in the water. When he turned to leave, the rest of him got a dunking too. Because they are slow-moving, they are generally known as ‘sleepy lizards’. It is also known as a bobtail, shingleback, pinecone, or blue-tongued lizard. I’ve written about them before if you’d like more information about them. https://www.mylot.com/post/3226878/bobtails-make-cute-pets The skinks are out and about too with the warmer weather. I'm sorry the photo isn't a bit clearer. You might have to search for him like you did the emu a post or two ago.

I spotted it immediately. At first I thought it was a snake!

I guess the weather is really hot there and that is bad for the bushfire.

It's hot enough. They have had a respite from the heat in the east.

@JudyEv I cannot imagine the hot weather there because we are in the tropics and I know that there are places that are hotter like New York and probably in your place as well.

The volcano situation is really very bad too and has more potential to do harm than our bushfires.

For a moment I thought it was a snake and my heart skipped a beat. You remember you wrote about skinks, it is surely hot there.

@JudyEv I have heard that you had heavy rains in the area where there were bushfires, I hope it is helping.

@LadyDuck Yes, the rains have brought some relief - but also flooding in some areas with a risk of landslide because there is no vegetation to hold the soil.

I don't think I've seen a lizard that big in person before. We only have the small ones here.

Our skinks are longer and a bit skinnier. None of them are dangerous. This one was on the windowsill.

Thanks, yes, we are the other side of the country. Water is more important than food for the wildlife here. It's not too often there isn't any food around - at least in our area.

The reptiles appreciate being able to drink from these containers. There is a similar one outside the kitchen.

I suppose he is a bit of a weather forecaster. If he turns up, for a drink, then it is going to be a hot one!

He looks cute in the photo but if I saw something like that on a daily basis I'd be waiting for it with an elevated shovel. Lizards are not my favorite people.

I can see the lizard easily I hope the weather will get cooler soon. It is hard to believe that it is so hot in your country. Usually this hot weather is available in the deserts only.

@JudyEv The news said that it is raining hard in Australia. The good news is it is helpful to put out the fire. But on the other hand I am afraid there will be a flood. It is terrible to see the koalas are all wet because of the heavy rain. The have suffered so much lately.

Today I found a very small lizard near the coldest and wettest part of the plant containers. Poor beasts! They also suffer from this extreme heat.
