Here is a collage from photos taken at the horse breed show that we went to yesterday. Top right is a Clydesdale mare and top left a close-up showing how the tails of the Clydesdales are plaited and decorated for show. The tails of draught horses were once ‘docked’ or cut really short. There was a reason for this and it was to stop the tail getting caught in the traces or chains of the machinery/vehicles that the horse was attached to.
The bottom two photos are of gypsy cobs which look like short-legged Clydesdales. The stallion is on the left and a mare on the right. Gypsy cobs are often ‘coloured’ – brown-and-white (skewbald) or black-and-white (piebald). The hair on the legs is called the ‘feather’.

I think all horses have at least a small amount of feather. When they get wet, the feather drains the water to the ground. Otherwise it can sit in the hollow just above the hoof and cause what's known as 'greasy heel'. Some breeds just have a whole lot more than others.

So pretty horses with all it's fanfare to make them look spectacular! I only seen Clydesdale in Budweiser commercials or on some kind of farm story.

I wonder how the horse feels about a ribbon being pinned to his butt? Lol.
