this is a cat

Isn't he handsome? He is currently curled up on the settee downstairs, an unenthusiastic non-participant in Husband's 'office' and privy to all his work conversations. His phone never stops ringing. Husband's phone, not Q's. I don't think Q has a phone, but I may be wrong. His fur is so thick and fluffy that he could be hiding anything in it. Sometimes, he brings home his new slug friends. He knows we don't like them; they're a little too slimy in our opinion, but what can you do? These young ones do like to push the boundaries as far as they can go. Meanwhile, I am in the actual Office upstairs. I desperately want to tidy the desk, but I'll find myself in trouble if I do. I go from Bedroom to Office to Kitchen to Bathroom to Living Room to Kitchen to Office to Bathroom to Office to Kitchen. It's such a struggle. Sometimes I even get dressed, maybe brush my hair. I laugh crazily at some of the conversations students have in their online classes. I thank the gods that I don't possess a mic or a webcam. Can you imagine?! Netflix is our BFF at the moment. I watch people as they walk past my house, dogs on leads, toddlers in buggies. The playground in the park at the top of the road is padlocked securely. No viruses allowed in there. I'll be leaving the house later, for the first time since Saturday morning. We need some provisions from Tesco. Husband hasn't started the car for a week. It's going to grumble. He's not supposed to leave the house as he's been identified as being one of the 1.5 million most vulnerable personages in this tiny island nation. But he snapped at me this morning; he needs a break. A walk. Some different scenery. He will park away from others, I will shop, he will walk and enjoy the wind on his face. We will come home. And life will return to the new normal that is. Happy Days!

Q is a very handsome cat indeed. What has happenedto his right eye? Is he winking at us or is he one of those rare chimera cats with one brown and one green eye? Such cats are quite rare and are actually two cats in one, having been two separate eggs which fused very early on in their development. Some of them also have completely different coloured fur on one side than the other and some have a very sharply defined line down the middle. Most, however, look fairly normal apart from the eyes. According to my brother (who is a catficionado), cats communicate via a special whisker (usually one above the eye) and can do so over very long distances - like to Australia (where his son's cats live).

@Poppylicious I believe that it is the same for some people. There can also be changes in skin colour and texture when it happens. Look up 'chimera' on the Internet. It's rather rare that humans are born viable but a little less rare in cats (and any animal which produces multiple ova at once).

@owlwings I had no idea. I've only ever known one person with different colour eyes. I'm learning a lot being in lockdown!

Oooh, that's interesting! Is that the same for people who are blessed with different coloured eyes? Not the fur bit, of course. That would be daft! I think it was just the angle I took the photo at, with the light receding and the position of the window, his right eye is just in shadow.

@Poppylicious I like his different color eyes. I also have a black and white cat. At first when you said the phone kept ringing I thought that the cat was very popular and then finding out the calls were for your husband. I like Netflix all the time. There is a playground I walk through to get to the pharmacy or the grocery store and right now it is empty. I know what he means about wanting to take a walk. I had to walk today but not for fun.

His eyes are actually the same colour ... it was the angle and the light which made them appear differently! I try to make my exercise tie in with something essential. Pharmacy one day. Post box another. Milk on yet another occasion. These things must be planned these days!

@Poppylicious I find when I take a picture of my cat her eyes are not the same as in real life.

@poppylicious A trip to Tesco is about as exciting as it gets. I did it yesterday and it was quite funny. Proper lining up to get in, but once you’re in it’s a free for all. From 9 - 10 it was only old and vulnerable people allowed in, and it was up to a wee baldy man in a big uniform as to who was old and who was not. I was quite pleased to be told I wasn’t old. And I’m going to get fat on too much cake that my wife keeps on baking to alleviate boredom.

I hope you're having cake for breakfast ... very continental! I love the fact that it's all the little mundane parts of our existence which have suddenly become the most exciting!

@Poppylicious Should I use the upstairs toilet or the downstairs next time? These decisions have taken on enormous importance.

You must get a cat! I'm looking forward to Tesco. It's lovely in there now that everyone has stopped panicking and they're making you queue outside. It's so lovely that I wish they'd keep it like that for ever and always! I'm just hoping they have eggs. I'd really like some yeast so I can bake some bread. but I think that's a rare commodity these days! I might just have to make some scones!
