Getting fitter or getting fatter?

United Kingdom
April 3, 2020 9:41am CST
As more and more of us are having to stay at home now, the usual routines are out the window. No gym, being able to leave the house is limited, but you can stock up on essentials and non-essentials if you're willing to queue at the supermarket. My question is this: Are you being strict with yourself by managing your diet and fitting in some exercise during the day (bedroom Olympics aside), or are you binge watching the complete Friends box set with popcorn and chocolates as your companion?

I do my morning exercising at home now, and always seem to weigh the same. I’m also pigging out today!

This is a good one actually I haven't changed my diet at all to be honest the problem is a chocolate cake or a muffin is so better better than a salad and can't help but have a cheeky burger, but am definitely trying to get in the garden more. I hope you are well and I'm so sorry for the lateness in responding

@lgm92881719 Yeah, that was funny. Have you got sun stroke? And you definitely lost me with the bacon, mushroom and egg in a stick. In a stick?

So you didn't fancy playing Rock, Paper, Scissors then? That's one of my old ones that won't lead you astray. Yeah, salad is better than a burger but not as tasty. I can't resist a burger van when I am out. I think it's the smell of the onions that gets me. The first bite is the best and after that I lose interest in the burger. I am all the better now you've responded. Enjoy the weather while it's nice.

@Orson_Kart I'm more of stone, cardboard and box cutter type of person haha made myself chuckle with that. Oh yes definitely can't beat a good old burger van I'm more of a bacon, mushroom and egg in a stick kind of person but if the burger looks good enough then it's a win win . I will try and respond more just for you and I will try thank you, hope you are well

I'm being strict except for baking a cake the other day and scones yesterday. If anything, I'm a bit more active.

Are you mixing by hand? That's good exercise. And if you do the 'I baked a cake' dance at the end then your activity could be through the roof.

@JudyEv There is a dance called The Cake Walk. Have you tried it?

@Orson_Kart Yes, I'm mixing by hand. I hadn't thought about dancing at the end but that's a good idea.

I must admit that I have been doing more 'binge' than 'healthy' as far as eating has been concerned.....my partner has gone back to work now so hopefully as I am at home Monday to Friday without him all snacks and suppers will stop !

Hi Tj, Long see no time. Are you furloughed? A new word but widely accepted by many. Yeah, it's hard to resist the urge to snack.

With the weather improving, it's encouraging me to get out and walk. I meet with my sisters to do Pilates type exercise- really helps keep me from getting all stiff and sore. I am trying not to bring things like chocolate or other addictive foods in the house! That's just asking for trouble. I'm looking forward to the grass cutting- fabulous exercise that must be done!

@Orson_Kart I meet with them by Zoom - I'm further physically from them than the U.K. Lol Gotta love technology! Ah yes! Those dangerous chocolate items! They whisper sweet nothings to lure you close enough to your shopping cart so they can, mysteriously, jump in. When you try to return them to the shelf, they, somehow, wrestle you to a standstill, force you to the cash register! Forget covid! There's already an ongoing war!

Why hello stranger :) It's great you can meet up with your sisters. Over here, due to the lockdown, that isn't allowed. I don't have the will power to prevent chocolate coming into the house. Fortunately it's not there for long.

I generally have not changed much at all during this. I tend to maintain around 170 pounds all the time no matter what I do. For me, though, I am still going to work every day during the week. So, in that regard not much has really changed for me.

@Orson_Kart Hopefully. I am sure my metabolism will eventually slow down again. I remember when I joined the Navy I was 112 pounds. After I got out of boot camp I maintained around 130-135 and stayed there for many years. Then I hit my 40s and amped up into the 165-175 range and have stayed there.

Hi Chelle, sorry I can’t add the accent over the e on my tablet. I’ll have to see if I can sort it. Does it turn your name from a shell to a shellay? I wrote this discussion at the start of the covid pandemic. I struggle with both. I love my food and now I’m older I do very little exercise. I should do better.

@Orson_Kart I think if you hold down the e, options for accent marks appear, but I am not worried about that. Yes, with the accent, the final e is pronounced e.

I either go on a walk or play a VR game, that'll get your blood pumping. as for food, it's honestly been whatever we can find. I'm sure some of it hasn't been healthy but we try to grab something healthy when we can.
