opossum nursing her young
April 21, 2020 1:04am CST
Well we decided that since it was a nice day that we would go out to clean off the back porch. When we got to this tote this is what we found. Scared the bajeebers out of me. Needless to say, I put cleaning off for another day.

Possums! We had some in our garage when I was growing up. My dad was softhearted and said, "Oh, let them stay, they're just little."

....cool, since she was nursing and also since i was leery of bothering them, we'll let them stay until mom is ready to find other shelter...

Possums are so adorable, especially the babies! They eat ticks and are immune to rabies, so I would let them stay. I took care of a possum once when I was volunteering with an exotic animal rescue.

@PetuniaPutnick I'm so glad you didn't disturb them. They are very misunderstood animals.

Looking cute but handling those activities is very hard.. To control those now you need one Kitten..

The babies are so cute! Be careful of the mother. She can be vicious when defending her babies.

@PetuniaPutnick Opossums and raccoons are that way with babies. Well, any mother will protect their babies.

You need Granny Clampett from the Beverly Hillbillies. What a fine bunch of possums. They just look different than kitty cats but they're just critters who would rather you didn't bother them.

@PetuniaPutnick animals who just gave birth are really dangerous, you made the right call by leaving them alone.
