What , in your opinon, are the differences b/t private and public schools? Which do your children attend, or if you were to have any...which would you want them to attend? Do you think there is a higher education in one, versus the other? Better enviroment?

I dont know about the other countries... but in my country... it is general concept that private schools are better than public school..... the justification behind this thinking is that..... public school.... check and balacnce is weak and than their teachers are not much involved in teaching....since they will get the pay... even if they remain on leave....
but in private school.... the better results will attract more students resultantly more earning for school ..owners...so always hire better teachers..... and strictly check the performance of teachers and students....

I am a Mother VERY concerned with education. We live in Florida...not exactly the best of the best. (Maybe if they'd up teacher's salaries...I digress...)
In any case, I believe that Private vs Public is dependant on two things: Where you live and the schools in your area. In some places it is not necessary to pay additional for a great education. In these cases, private is simply for prestige. In other areas if you don't go Private, you'd be gypping your child out of a decent education...
The first thing you need to consider, is if there is a rating system for your county. If there is, and you are slated in a high-ranking district, then I wouldn't worry about Private school. That is, unless you are considering an all boys/girls school. I would highly consider an all-girls school for my daughter later in life... More for the combination of education AND commeraderie.
Also, the most important thing (above all else) is to consider your individual child and their personalities. Talk to both of the schools you are considering, the teachers...and even drop in when class is in session so you can "tour" reality...
Good luck on your quest!

unfortunately I do, our school system here in Washington State is very inferior to most states and since I went to a private school I feel my education has faired better than those that when to public school. Many of my neighborhood friends did not even go to college, and some barely made it past high school. I feel that by going to private school I got a lot more one on one teacher time and the classrooms were much smaller so no one was lost or pushed to the next level when they should not have been.

in my experience private far defeats public in every way. The athletic coaches were complete jokes in a public school, because they had to please everyone. There is less politics with sports in a private school.... Not to mention that private schools are much better academically because they demand excellence and the best. Public schools just try to get you to graduation and get you out. This may be different in other areas, but i would take my old private school over any public school any day of the year

i think private school or public doesnt matter. it really depend to the system of the school itself. i have 2 kids in primary studying in public and 2 in secondary studying in private. i cant see any difference. sometimes its more strict in public than in private. i am talking about teaching standard almost the same.

I went to private school from sophomore until I graduated from high school. I had great education. If I have another girl in the future, that where I want my daughter to go for high school. I believe she will have a better education and able to meet friends from all over the world. I went to all girls boarding school and I loved it. We had curfew, time to study at night, time to go to bed, where we can go during the weekend, I know it sound little strict but I think kids these days need thoes. But I think it up to the parents and where you live too.

We're homeschooling, but I think in my area the public schools are pretty good. Private is generally better in most places.
