Jailed for sneaking across the border

Just a day or two ago, in Western Australia, a young woman was jailed for six months for flouting our COVID-19 quarantine laws. The silly young thing had permission to fly into Western Australia from the east but didn’t want to do the mandatory two-week quarantine. This would have been at her own expense so it’s understandable that it didn’t sit well with her.
She got a ride with a truck driver who was coming to WA from the eastern states. At the border, she hid in a car which was being transported on the back of the truck. Somehow, the police found out about it and she is now facing six months inside. She is the first to be jailed for this type of offence.
The photo was taken on the road between Western Australia and South Australia.

Her rationale: “At least I don’t have to quarantine for two weeks at my own expense.”

Why do people think they don’t have to follow the rules? It may stop others from trying the same thing

Wow. The lengths she went to in an effort to avoid quarantine. My husband goes to visit his family every summer. Loves it down there on the Island. But he knows he would have to quarantine for his full vacation so it's not worth it. He cancelled his vacation from work. I think he thought if he did take vacation the plant would shut down completely and permanently. Didn't want to risk either.

I am worried for our country as Perú, our neighborg country, is having many deaths from the COVID.

@JudyEv Very easy. They go across the mountains where there are no patrols. It is the same way that narcos use

@marguicha It's not quite so easy here. There are only one or two routes across the border unless you have 4 wheel drive and go to a lot of trouble.

You need to keep things in proportion though. Apparently Ireland would fit in Australia 110 times. Do you know offhand where the 7 miles is? I doubt we drove on it. I guess it is one of the motorways.

It's a shame that people like this keep the virus going. Have a great Thursday.

sad, i would say something snarky but young people in the US had Covid parties because they didn't believe the virus was real.
oh well.

Why can't they just wait the two mandatory quarantine weeks? I don't know what people have in their minds these days? In the end she is Jail-quarantined!

@jvicentevalera It's all very well fining people or putting them in jail but it's the potential damage they do while they're out and about that is the problem.

@JudyEv exactly! This isn't about just one person it is about all of us taking care of each other by wearing the mask and sticking to the rules!

Maybe she came from Silent Hill and was spooked by the zombies there, so she came terrified disoriented doesn't want to be confined.

Exactly. Well, she won't be sneaking in anywhere now for a while.
