Joint bank account

Am wondering if couples around the world prefer a joined account or separate accounts.
I see disadvantages of a joint account. One is not free to withdraw money whenever he wants. The other party must know about it.
Separate accounts have advantages. And one of them is freedom- Freedom to withdraw any amount you want.
On the other hand, when your spouse dies, it cannot be transferred automatically to your account for some legal reasons. I am not a lawyer so I don't know the technical term on this.
Anyway, which one do you prefer?

I have a joint account for all the household and shared expenses. Each of us then transfers whatever is enough to meet those expenses and whatever is left in our personal accounts is ours to use as we please. I have previously worked out, of course, what will be needed to cover the expenses for the year and so know how much each of us should contribute and have set up direct debits and standing orders to make the payments into and from the joint account automatically.
The system works for me and saves a lot of hassle and argument about who should pay what and when.

My husband and I have trust and honesty 100%, there is no hiding things from each other. Besides God sees everything and we will be held accountable one day when we stand before Him.

you can apply for a joint account but make it "OR" not "AND". for example, the account name is janet x or kyle x. that way, any one of you can deposit, transfer or withdraw any time.

@Janet357 and i'm also telling you that you can also make an OR account so you can avoid the disadvantages you mentioned as long as you have open communication about the withdrawals.

We have individual account, but the deposits is transparent mutually for us,if setting up a joint account,it is not flexible
to withdraw money alone.
