Hello everyone! My name is Joy Lee and recently I've been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. After the initial shock, I've had to make some changes to my lifestyle. Besides increasing my activity level, I've also had to sway towards more low-carb meals. Beginning my journey, my blood sugar levels were at a whopping 180 (and higher!) consistently. Now, I'm proud to say that they have dropped to around 100 in just a month of changing my eating habits. My advice to anyone struggling with diabetes or want to live with less carbs? Breakfast foods! Keto pancakes are pretty damn good with some sugar-free syrup. Eggs have ZERO grams of carbs. Bacon is carb-free too, but you can choose to eat turkey bacon or veggie bacon to cut back on fat/calories. Of course not everyone likes these foods, but if you do, this could just be a start to some low-carb mornings or brunches at your house! Let me know what you guys do to make meals less carb-y, even if they aren't considered keto!

Luckily I have the choice to make improvements to my life so that I won't have to rely on insulin like Type 1 diabetics. I am only at the start of my journey, but so far I am seeing some major improvements!

Movement keeps the sugar down. Walk or exercise. Tasty food is a thing of the past. Include bitter gourd as often in your meals.

First of all welcome to mylot. Hope you will enjoy it here. Getting type 2 diabetes is a bad news. You will have to control your diet to control your sugar level. Good news is that you are already aware of what should be your diet. Add some exercise also to your daily routine to help you further.

I went low carb a year ago for the exact same reason - diabetes. I am no longer diabetic, my numbers are all great so I think it was well worth it. I still enjoy all those carby foods, just one day a week now.

This is amazing! I'm so glad that you were practically able to reverse your diabetes. This gives me lots of motivation and hope for the future. I'm also glad that you are still able to treat yourself to some carb-filled foods once in a while :)

@joyleee Of everything I've ever tried low carb and keeping it really simple is the only one I whole-heartedly endorse. Interestingly after a while you absolutely do not miss the carbs very much. And may even find you don't like them or they make you feel a little queasy.
