Tree ferns near Manjimup, Western Australia

The area we were visiting recently has more rainfall than we do here and the paddocks there are still green. It reminds me of Ireland with its lushness. Much of ‘our’ bush is best described as open woodland but around Manjimup the undergrowth is very thick and difficult to penetrate. Blackberries grow wild and the tree ferns are huge with large drooping fronds. I thought @crazyhorseladycx would like this photo of the tree ferns.

@JudyEv There is a small river that runs not far from us, the wood is green and full of ferns and blackberries. The blackberries I grow in my garden come from berries I picked up there.

Does it? That's interesting to know that your woods are something like sections of ours.

@LadyDuck I don't know if people go picking blackberries here. Perhaps they do.

How secluded and beautiful the woodland is ! The tree ferns are known as living fossil.

It's a very attractive area but difficult to walk through. I didn't know that about tree ferns.

@judyev I’d have believed you if you had passed that photo off as taken in County Down. It doesn’t really say Australia to me. On the other hand, when we were in Melbourne in February 1970 it rained for 3 weeks and everywhere was flooded.

It's also known for being attractive to snakes which would distinguish it from County Down. lol

Most of the greenery is ferns of some sort.

@JudyEv Are they introduced European blackberries, or a native plant?

@Fleura It seems we have 10 species of native blackberries but the introduced European blackberries are regarded as a pest.

It's beautiful. Nature is beautiful. I just hope that there are no wild predators lurking around. We ate stir fried ferns back then and I miss it.

There might have been snakes lurking somewhere but that's about it. Stir-fried ferns? I've never heard of that before.

Yes some of the areas are in a way blessed to receive more rain so naturally they have more greenery and roots will be more stronger too
