Why I Stopped Celebrating New Years Every Year

January 1, 2021 12:04am CST
Don't get me wrong, I love it when we are gearing up to countdown a new year, but I realized that even with all the excitement, nothing really changes for me come the next day. All the joy, pain, successes and struggles I had on 31st December still remain the same on 1st January. This sadly leaves me disappointed and makes me feel like a total failure because deep down I expect some sort of total shift..maybe wake up in a new life, new body, even a new planet. I definitely blame society because of the pressure and hype we give such celebrations. So I decided to celebrate my New Year, Every Day by setting realistic daily goals. I feel less pressured to have achieved something grand by the end of the year and get to enjoy the small milestones every day. I have learned to love and look forward to waking up every day with the rising of the sun serving as a constant reminder that it is my new day. I have new goals and choices to make and if I fail today, I get the chance to do it over tomorrow. Have you set your new years resolutions? Wishing you all a Happy New Year!!

I don't make any resolutions. It's just a change of date there in calendar. For me each new day is a fresh start, a new hope and a blessing. I live by each day and try to make best out of it.

It's just another day, no better and no worse than the day before or the day after. We have no control over many of the things that happen each day but whatever happens; a good attitude, a positive spirit and hope keeps us going. Let's make the best if each day!

Nothing changes. Each day is a fresh start. The New Year just feels like an extra fresh start to me. The first day of spring and the first day of school feel similar. A time when I feel like reviewing my goals. I have one firm resolution and that is to lose weight and feel better.

@FionaRubi absolutely.

Wishing you all the best on your weight loss journey!! You are still beautiful with or without the extra weight!! Focus on feeling better, increase your water intake, reduce your stress levels and incorporate basic exercise into your daily routine, it will eventually fall off.

I celebrate it every year because I like being around those I love at the turn of the new year and have never expected some huge over night shift because of the "hype" around the holiday in fact those messages "new year new me" or "Im gonna make *insert year* my b*tch" or "this year is my year" are just eh because they then complain that they never achieved them then again those goals are extremely vague

My resolution is to get back some of my fitness after a health scare that I had and to not put so much pressure on myself.

Wishing you all the best Paddy. This is also part of my daily goals. I have had a few health scares too. I started small in 2019 with increasing my water intake, following youtube workouts and managing my stress levels. I am so happy with where I am today. Start small too, you will see a big difference immediately!

Happy New Year to you too. I personally don't set resolutions. I try to stick to realistic goals that I can actually do.

Yeah, I have often called things false hope at times, like religion. I just think one time one year will be better than the last because no one can predict the future, not even Alexa or Siri. Happy New Year anyway and plus its should be a motto we live by wish your brothers and sisters a happy life instead of making them suffer like our politicians and corporate business people seem to like to do.

I am working on being more focused on doing surveys at the beginning of my work before coming here to write good news stories here and watching classic comedies on You Tube and on television.

That's a really good perspective in seeing goals. I haven't set all of my resolutions, but I have set many of them. Happy new year! May all of good things happen in our life this year.
