Do you know this plant?

We went to my sister-in-law’s on Saturday evening to celebrate her birthday. I was intrigued by this plant which was on her verandah. I thought the flower was very pretty.
I’m not sure what the plant is but perhaps a myLotter recognises it. I thought it might be a mother-in-law’s tongue but the flower isn’t right. Does anyone have any ideas?

I knew it came from the Bromeliad family but a search confirmed it
Identify plants and flowers when you upload a picture or take a photo with your phone. Learn the scientific names and different varieties, and find similar flora.

@JudyEv I saw the responses down. Good to know that there is bing.com to help us find names of plants. And mother in law's tongue is a funny nameNot all mother in laws have thorny tongue

I don't know about the flower's name. But it seems like you already got your answer. But one for sure when people said it MIL's tongue, I know it's not that plant because my sister has MIL's tongue.
And tbh I thought people here in my country made up the MIL's tongue, but apparently people world Wide also use that name.

@RebeccasFarm The roos eat just about anything I plant and I'm not much of a gardener at the best of times.

It's a bromeliad which is sometimes grown here as a houseplant. It isn't Mother-in-law's tongue though, that is a different plant, with upright, long pointy leaves (hence the name).
