They called our caravan a 'wobbly'

Western Australia has done remarkably well during the pandemic. Now, the government is attempting to stimulate the economy by spending millions on roadworks. This has created many employment opportunities as well. Major works are taking place on a number of roads and it’s nearly impossible to go anywhere without running into delays and ‘go-slow’ stretches. When we drove to Mt Barker recently, we had the caravan in tow. We were able to listen to the traffic controllers in the roadwork areas as we have a two-way radio in the car. We were stopped at one point while the opposing traffic was allowed through. When it was our turn to move on, we were last in line and were amused to hear ourselves described as ‘silver Prado with a wobbly’. It’s probably not a bad name for a vehicle and caravan. I wonder what other nicknames they have for vehicles. Photo of our caravan tucked away in the shed, before we removed the centre pole.

You know they have to have a reason to call it that. I wish we knew the story on that.

@JudyEv I've seen them sway in a slight breeze and wondered if that might be the reason.

Many caravan units are a bit unstable on the roads and wobble around a bit. I guess that's the reason.

@DaddyEvil There is a fair bit of wind resistance in them and some are quite heavy.

Do you drive Prado? That is my mom's last name. I think we call this a trailer.

Yes, I drive the Prado but I haven't towed the caravan yet. I will one day in case there is ever an emergency and I need to.

It's so neat to hear you call your trailer a caravan. We have different names. We have Fifth Wheel trailers that have parts that go over the cab of a truck. We have tear drop and motorhomes. Some call them RV's (recreational vehicles), and we even have "toy haulers."

@JudyEv We have those too and flat beds. I'm hoping to find a tiny travel trailer in a few months.

@noni1959 There are some small ones here that are really cute. Some don't really have cooking facilities any more as most of the caravan/camping parks have camp kitchens now.

Those are all good names. We have fifth wheelers too - and RVs and motor-homes. This is what we call a trailer.

We have lots of road work going on, all over Michigan. As you mentioned, wherever we go there are work zones to pass through.

I know in some parts the freezing weather breaks the roads up. Does that happen in our state?

@kobesbuddy Thankfully that doesn't happen here. It must be a nightmare for the authorities to be always repairing roads.

They're not called 'trailers' here. Trailers are a two/four wheeled ??? (carrier?). What would you call this?

@JudyEv I figured as much. We have trailers that are like that here, too. They just don't move as much unless the driver is reckless.

@JudyEv I'm sure they get whipped around by the wind sometimes. I like the name wobbly. I'll have to remember that one.

Caravans tend to get a wobble up from time to time for various reasons. That's the only reason I know.

We have some very funny terms for some things. I'm not sure about the spelling. lol If someone is a bit under the weather (has been drinking a bit much) they sometimes say he has his wobbly boots on.
