Question: 'Do you give names to your pIants?'

I do not know if I am being silly with this query. My younger brother and I were talking about giving names to his plants. He was just laughing. I kept on persuading him and left me hanging to sleep. I will insist on the idea tomorrow. I gave the rationale that these plants will grow beautifully. especially calling their names or talking to them. Am I being weird with this matter? I've been informed that plants grow bigger and stronger, when loving words are lavished on them. Giving them names? I'm not sure if this works or not.

I read an article before that if we do talk to them and grow beautifully, it means that we are capable of spreading love to other people.

That happens if you talk closely to the plants and your breath can give it some humidity. Someone told me that many years ago.

@Shavkat And I believe this is true, plants do respond to kind words and so do people.

It looks cute! but for me something natural if we give names to objects or living things that we consider special. I like talking to my cat even though I know he doesn't understand human language ??

It was also my frustration when talking to my cat before. He cannot even recognize his name. But then, I continued to do so because he was a special pet for me. I lost him last year and do not know where did he go.

No I don't. Usually names are given to the things whom we want to adress as we cannot communicate with the plants then what's the use of giving them the name.

You are entitled not to do so. I think some people do it. It matters how we perceived the idea.

I never thought of naming the plants but sometimes I would refer to them as my babies.

@ramapo17 I think it is his way to unload the stressors in life. I am glad that he can raise a bird. It is not for me because I am not good at raising a bird.

@Shavkat I am that way with my animals too. At this time in my life I only have the greatest little bird that has such a fun personality. She was my grandsons and he moved around to much so I asked him if I could have him. Funny how things work out as now my grandson lives with us also so he still sees the bird all the time.

I have not given thought to naming my plants. But your idea is very nice and the reason for giving them names is very logical which I believe might really be effective.

Up to this day, my younger brother is not considering it. According to him, all his plants will be sold soon. It will be a bad idea to name them. He is really not getting my point.

@Shavkat I can understand why your brother does not want to give them names because he does not want to get attached to them because he is just going to sell them!

I've heard that talking to your plants make them happy and they grow better (don't know if that's really true) but I've never named my plants. I'm curious to know what names you come up with for your brothers plants

I guess whatever floats your boat. I have never named a plant. But I see no harm in it either. There is actually truth to talking to plants making them healthy. They process the carbon monoxide of course, and that's what we expel when we talk to them, essentially helping to feed them and keep them healthy.
