We ate out yesterday - at Quindanning Hotel

Our village entertainment committee organised a bus trip to Quindanning Hotel yesterday. Fifty-odd residents (well, some of them were a bit odd) climbed on the bus at 9am and off we went. We stopped at Dwellingup for morning tea, then drove on to Quindanning where we had a lovely roast dinner followed by apple crumble.
The very first building on the site was of mud brick. Construction started on December 3, 1900. The present hotel was built in front of this structure in 1921.
The original owner was Frank Morgan, a Welshman, who found the surroundings much like his native Wales. Bricks and timber were all sourced locally. It was built as a retreat to attract wealthy businessmen from Perth, and included a saloon bar, front bar, billiard room, lounge and bedrooms.
A nine-hole golf course, tennis courts and a swimming hole were constructed to cater for guests. Hunting trips were also offered. At one time, it has reputation for somewhat risqué weekends. However, yesterday we were all very well-behaved.
The photo shows part of the dining room.

@JudyEv 95% of people in Israel is vaccinated and they had a terrible new wave starting 10 days ago. The vaccine does not seem to protect against the Iota mutation, that is now in all the 50 US states. Be careful no matter how relaxed your authorities are. Politicians always seem the last to do something to prevent people to get sick.

We have no restrictions at the moment bar the authorities wanting everyone to log in with their mobile phones when they go anywhere - to help with tracking any possible outbreaks. We are so fortunate but I can't see it lasting. However, as more and more get vaccinated I guess the risk lessens a little.

@anya12adwi Tourists possibly call in at any time but farmers might come in late afternoon for a drink and people ride their motorbikes from Perth on the weekends.

This place looks lovely. And you all had wonderful day.
It's morning here and after finishing my chores, I am heading to my morning walk for 30 minutes. It's a pleasant cold morning.

@judyev Of course you stopped at Dwellingup - how could anyone resist a place with a name like that! What makes me nervous of travelling by bus is that it’s the bus driver who gets to decide where and when passengers may alight to allow bladders to be emptied.

@JudyEv - I'm so glad that your new community has planned day trips for you to enjoy! We have gone on a few with our community, too, including to a casino in San Diego county. It is sure easier than driving to those places yourself!

@JudyEv - That's a great idea, to suggest some of the trips you might like. I bet other seniors would like to go to the casino, too. The casino trips are very popular here!

Oh wow, that's a long time ago. What a celebration it will be when you venture to do so again.
