Hello October! A historical October for hubby and I. News waited for hubby when he got to the office this morning. He works for the state. The retirement folks have been busy filling out paperwork. He's going to have the expected pension plus a check for unused sick leave and vacation time. And the head honcho wants to know his feelings about his experience in state employment. Being who he is, he might not be totally diplomatic. Yes, he did land a decent job. He landed the decent job after getting three degrees. He never was given a chance for improvement or promotion. The computer access was pretty poor. It's almost like it is still the 1970's, not 2021. Sigh. The second he has an issue he is treated like a know nothing client. And yet he did land a good paying job. The other news for us? Since we paid off the loan on the house that we currently live in, we just got a bill to pay its taxes by the end of the month. Or get booted with a fine. We'll get it done. There was a teeny bit of ice on the windshield this morning. My very late tomato plant is still green and happy, though. Got to love the autumn sunshine. Happy October!

Lot's going on in your life right now. I am going to be a state Ombudsman and begin training in January. Good luck with the retirement.

@noni1959 I tried to be an ombudsman for folks in care facilities. Over here I got so discouraged cause of folk's living conditions. I felt I was doing no good so I resigned the unpaid position.

@sallypup A big thing we do is let the patients and family know their rights and give them resources. If the living conditions are horrible, reports will be filed. I'm going through 36 hours of training, will be shadowing a deputy for three months and attending meetings and more training. My goal is a paid investigator position and this is where I can start without going back to college.

@noni1959 You have a good idea. I was supposed to write up notes and send them off. But say what? That nobody would talk to me and that the norm was for the patients in a group home, was them all sitting in a circle watching TV?? Their idea of quality care was far different than mine.

I hope your husband's retirement goes smoothly. Do some traveling if you can. Ice on the windshield? Noooooooooooo! It's been 70ish for days and days with sun. I think when the weather goes, it's gonna go big time!

@LindaOhio Sigh and sigh again. Hubby really wanted to go to Scotland and I wanted to go to the Lake Country in England. That idea looks like it could cost about twenty thousand, all things added up. Got to win the lottery and I don't gamble.

@kaylachan Thanks. Seeing an almost thousand dollar tax bill that must be paid within the month kind of shocks the system for a moment.

As he will soon be retired I would let them have it about how he feels. Those taxes can be shocking

That is great news. I love the way the State pays for unused vacation and sick time. They do put a limit on it here in Louisiana, but it can still be a nice amount!! Congrats on your hubby's retirement!!

My brother in law and sister both work for the state. My bro in law has worked for the state his entire career, while sis worked in private engineering firms for awhile. Neither of them are thrilled with the state, but is' a living. Bro in law finally got promoted after trying for several in a row. He just got that job like two years ago...now he is ready to retire..lol.
