I feel sad seeing few posts.

I like plants and gardening but I feel sad because of the space constraint, I don't have a garden. I feel jealous when I see posts mentioning gardens and about the plants bearing flowers. I feel jealous when I read posts of Judy mentioning wildlife near her place and Carol mentioning the birds she watches at her place. I wish I also could have a big place where I would have a garden having plants bearing beautiful flowers and butterflies sucking nectar from them and I could listen to the chirping of the birds and see them making their nests on the trees. I have plenty of land in the village but that's too far from the city where I live and it's not possible for me to settle there but I think I should settle in there after I get retired, as I love nature.

Maybe others envy you living in the city! The grass always looks greener elsewhere. I think you need to grow some flowers, or herbs in a pot plant where they can get some sunlight and loving care from you. Mint is rather a nice herb to grow in a pot, it smells good when it is watered and you can use it in meals and also chew on a leaf to sweeten your breath.

@41CombedaleRoad India is ugly. More like your slums perhaps. Yes, I can walk to any shop for basic needs. For good clothes and shoes, I would need my car. But if I needed something for emergency, I have it easily. Most of the shops are not too far. My monthly petrol (gas) bill is less than 50 USD.

@vandana7 I don't know how it is in India but I do feel a little envious of good shops and public transport. It is expensive to run a car and my clothes are not the same quality as if I could visit a good a good clothes shop. So no car and nicer clothes would be a bonus to enjoy occasionally.

But you can always appreciate gardens of others until you get one of your own. And that you are doing each time I write posts on my garden and pets. You are still working and you can already now plan for your retirement in your village.

Are you allowed to keep potted plants in your home? You could create your dish garden.

@sjvg1976 have you heard of air plants? They don’t occupy much space coz you can hang it anywhere where it could see a bit of sunlight. No soil needed. And when they bloom, they’re colorful.

Yes, we are allowed but if we do that then the house will become congested.

I know of a few who are happy to settle in villages but most will prefer to stay in cities. It depends on acting on your passion.

In old age, health becomes a serious consideration preventing relocation. That is why I selected an old age home where there is ample open area.

@sjvg1976 No. Not as yet. But dad is 88. I have selected one for me. Kinda, if I survive dad then within six months everything will be settled, and I will know where I am moving to. Too old to do much gardening I feel. But not too old to enjoy nature and peace that somebody else tends to. :)

@vandana7 do you live in a old age home? @Shiva49 it all depends. If a person is connected to village he/she will prefer to live there in an old age otherwise not. Also the health conditions of a person is the major factor which may deprive him/her to live there.

That is what I told him. He is rich. LOL Farm lands are not wherein you can actually live. At least not in India. You will have plenty of snakes and other critters troubling you. Moreover, the soil is not steady to build some place. It will get washed down in rains. The area where we all have homes is further from farm lands. That part is more solid though that can also get inundated, though not as often.

@vandana7 it's not that. I have an old house in the village but the thing is it's a joint property of my father's brothers. They won't let me live in that house.

I hope you do, too. I have lots of land, a garden, shrubs, and lots of flowers. However, the wildlife gobbles everything up unless I spray repellent every couple of weeks.

Don't feel sad, you can go visit. I also wish I could spend more time in the country, but then I get bored and want to come back to the city. This way I can do both

Husband and I plan to shift to our lush green village after retirement and indulge totally into agriculture. Not sure as how much of that will be materialized in the future. Meanwhile wherever I have been staying, I always had some plants.

@vandana7 Yes, that is the main concern. My brother in law has kept one apartment in Mumbai and he has shifted to his native village after retirement. But then he keeps coming to Mumbai to have all her medical check up done. But it's always a concern in case of medical emergency.
