The gift my brother-in-law doesn't know he gave us

For our Golden Wedding celebration, we had asked people not to bring gifts but Vince’s elder brother gave us some scratchies which yielded such a small amount of money that Vince bought a lottery ticket with it. This yielded a bigger amount – enough for this bottle of Cointreau.
I mentioned in a recent post that we’d stayed up till 2.00am and ended the night with several nips of this very nice liqueur.
So, although he doesn’t yet know it, my brother-in-law indirectly gave us a very acceptable gift. Have you ever had Cointreau?

My Dad used to like this, and as a result I have inherited a couple of bottles (because in fact he hardly ever drank).
Yes I like it. It's a bit strong for me neat, but I like it in cocktails and also in liqueur coffee.
And I just found this in case you need inspiration!

A lot of people haven't heard of it. I would have thought most would have.

How nice! No, haven't had any. I like Khalua, coffee liqueur with milk.

@oahuwriter I haven't tried it in coffee yet. I'm sure it would be nice.

@DocAndersen We went to a 70th the other day. The people have been very good to us over the years and we did take a gift. We simply said that we didn't think they meant us!

No, I have not heard of it. When I searched it, it gave option that it is available here and it is a French Orange Liquor.

I could only take tiny sips. It nearly took my breath away at first sip.

I want to try it, of course when I'm abroad. I drink it here and my mother kills me

@JudyEv yes I think it's the same as in Australia, but I'm still considered a minor by my parents even though I'm 24 years old

There must be reason why you don't accept any gift given to you.

Now we're older, there is nothing that we want and we'd rather people didn't spend money on us. If we are given a gift, we would accept it very graciously but we didn't want our guests to feel obliged to buy us a present.

Thanks for the good wishes. It is very true that not everyone gets to such a celebration.
