Yesterday I called a plumber to investigate my leak, It turns out my well meaning friend caused it when he was "fixing" the ball valve in the attic. He must have accidentally disconnected two pipes which made water run into the airing cupboard and through the ceiling in the living room. At least it wasn't a cracked tank as I thought. That would have been expensive.
Now should I tell him or not? The plumber has fixed the pipe and is bringing me a new ball valve next week. I will definitely leave it to the professionals next time.

I did but he didn't seem to think it was anything he did so I just left it. I will call a plumber next time.

That's what I've done as I know he would feel awful and start worrying about it.

Indeed, though well meaning, unless friend is a professional, leave it to the experts. Yes, I'd discuss it with friend, because, then, next time, he won't make the mistake again. But, you know best what to do.

This was back in October. The problem has now been fixed by a professional and I will not be using any more friends in the future. A lesson learned.
