Off to the Grocery Store

Pretty just came in and told me she's getting ready for our trip to get groceries this morning, so I need to get ready, too... I told her I wanted to say a little more before I got out of bed and started getting ready. (I can hear the shower going, so I've got until she's done before I need to stop posting on myLot...) I hope there aren't a lot of customers at Wally World yet. We don't normally go shopping in the morning because a lot of times the stores are full at this time. We normally go late in the evening when there are almost no people there. Do you have a time you prefer to go shopping for groceries? Photo is my Lord and Lady plant in full bloom. Picture is mine.

I never go shopping on Saturday, it is the most crowded day of the week. I always go early in the morning at the opening, on Thursday, because there are special offers on Thursday.

@DaddyEvil I always go at the opening of the store, at most I find two other women there that I now know, as we are always and only the early morning customers.

Yes, I also prefer shopping at night because it is quite quiet, and also avoids the hot sun. how many times do you shop in a week?

@Chakimmm It was a shock today when some of the prices we paid last month doubled... That was fun!

We shop twice a month. And usually the second time is just because we forgot something we need later in the month.

@DaddyEvil Yes, it is better to prepare supplies at home for a long time, because it can prevent us from running out of goods in the store.

Usually in the afternoon when I have planned what I want to get. It is like you and Pretty are married or something. Do you always just go to Walmart? Do you ever shop elsewhere?

@DaddyEvil She can't drive herself? She's not 12. Whatever, if it works for you, it works for you. I think my parents have one of those too. Actually, I think it might be Price Chopper. I was in there once, I didn't think it was that cheap.

We don't get delivery for things like that here. We'd still have to go to Walmart to pick the stuff up anyway. Not going to the supermarket is a lot safer. But we wear masks and use sanitizer when we get to the store and as we're leaving the store.

@DaddyEvil Here it is mandatory that every open store has sanitizers and a place where you take your temperature at the entrance.

@DaddyEvil We are all fine here - just busy and I'm actually getting stuff done since I'm not on the computer as much . How are you guys? I think the seniors out here sleep in . It seems like the busier time out here is after 11:00am . . . and then in the early evening. I don't think they have those "senior hours" anymore as they did during those stay-at-home order times.

@much2say Good! I'm glad to know you're all doing well. We're doing okay... I got to enjoy six hours at the ER but otherwise, still alive and kicking. Someone else told me they don't have senior only mornings anymore. I had no idea since I've not been there since January.

@daddyevil Our version of Wally World now has a “quiet time” for shoppers of a nervous disposition. Between 6 and 10 on Saturday and Wednesday mornings there is no music or announcements and the lights are dimmed. Unfortunately children and idiots have yet to be banned during this time.

You have ASDA there, right? Walmart here is open to seniors (those over 60) only on Tuesday from 6 am to 7 am. I'm not quite to 60 yet. I don't mind the normal store lights and sounds, I just want to be there when as few other people are there as possible.

@xFiacre I understand. We ran into some people who were blocked the entire aisle one day. We ask if we could get through and they told us to go around. That would have been fine except what we came for was in the middle of their huddle. I called the front desk and told them people were blocking the aisle and refused to let us shop. They sent security and he told the people to go outside if they wanted to stand around and talk. They started arguing with him. He called the cops and had them escorted out of the store... All I wanted was to get some chips... *shrug*

@DaddyEvil I want there to be no people at all, especially the couples who meet people they know and stand around blocking the aisles. They’ll be bringing picnics with them next. I’m 63; I’m NOT old but I like the benefits.

We get delivery, but the husband does slip into the store for a few quick items sometimes. He will generally go in first thing in the morning to avoid crowds. We've been trying to avoid crowds since the beginning of the pandemic. This last little bit, though, we have both been in too many high risk settings. Unfortunately, I didn't have a choice. Now, I get to worry, and we get to home test in a couple of days-- and again another day or two after that.

Before the pandemic we shopped at 2 am so there were never any people in the stores and we only saw a few people who worked there. Now, the stores aren't open 24 hours so we go as late in the evening as we can to avoid as many people as possible.

@DeborahDiane True enough... Did you get a smoked turkey? That's what we buy every year for Thanksgiving. Pretty keep pushing me to go back to work for Walmart. I keep telling her she should find a job instead. (She can't. She's agoraphobic. I get tired of her pushing me to get one when she hasn't worked a day in her life.)

@DaddyEvil - Walmart is going to get more crowded as we get closer to Thanksgiving and Christmas. I've been in there when it was crazy! I bought our Thanksgiving turkey this morning. I was in the grocery store to get some Jello for my husband's liquid diet (yummy!) and they only had about a dozen turkeys. Our daughter is actually hosting at her house, so I called her and asked if she had bought a turkey, yet. When she said "no," I told her I would pick one up while they were still available. What's Thanksgiving without turkey?

@DaddyEvil in fresh market, there are many food seller, so we full with snacking. In here, cos warm weather, it easy to go 5am. But I know how hard it is to go at 5 or 6 am - even in spring, cos still cold. In pandemic, we did not go to fresh market at all.

Lord and lady plant..that is an interesting one. I have not been to any physical store for grocery and vegetable shopping since the pandemic. However, I went to another store for some festival shopping and it was crowded because of all the Diwali sales and people out on the streets to buy stuff for the celebration. I quickly finished it and rushed back home.
