How is the temperature where you live today?
It is warm here and today is St.Martin's Day.
The legend says that, in Europe, during a snow storm in a very cold winter, Martin the Knight was returning home after a battle.
A homeless approached Martin asking for help.
Martin had no money, but he cut in half the long cape he was wearing and covered the homeless.
According to the legend, right at this moment, the snow storm stopped, the sun started to shine and the temperature rose.
That was considered a miracle and Martin became a Saint.
Believe it or not, usually the day of Saint Martin is a warm day here in Europe.

That is really an interesting legend and piece of folklore. We have nothing like that here.

@LadyDuck I never heard of it, but then again, I probably wouldn't in this part of the world.

@snowy22315 I suppose it's only a Catholic thing, I do not remember if this Saint was Portuguese. I have to check.

That's an interesting story. It is going to be close to 70 degrees Fahrenheit (21.1 Celsius) today; but it will drop to 40 (4.4 Celsius) tomorrow.

@RebeccasFarm
I realized that it was this special day when I noticed how warm it is outside. Weird that the temperature is almost always warm on this day.

This year it is a nice day here, last year was a warm day.
Surely St. Martin had his effect on our area.
Last year, our son and I spent the day together.
We made a picnic lunch together, went out to a nursery just outside of the city and bought a flat of freshly picked strawberries (they are in season here in June/early July) and then we went to the beach. On our way there, we stopped at a little shop that had been closed for most of the year due to covid, they sell candles and melts and collectables. I loaded up on some of these as I love them so, then he and I drove out to the beach. After a nice walk along the water we made our way back and stopped in a park to enjoy a little picnic. We did not realize that we would not be able to see each other in person until February of the next year. Due to covid, we could not.

@LadyDuck Yes, the warm days will end.
Today was the day that I always did up my Christmas cards to be mailed out.
I always did that so that they were ready to mail out the end of the month so that they would be delivered for December 1st, hard to believe that we are days away from December.

I am so glad that this post reminded you of a wonderful day with your son.
It is very warm here today, it is weird, but the Saint Martin Day has always been a warm day.
I went out and closed the water in the garden this morning, the warm days will end soon.

Not being Catholic or European, I really don't know much about St. Martin's Day. It's something that has never taken hold this side of the Atlantic.

I'm familiar with Saint Martin but didn't know the story behind his becoming a saint. I have a friend that loves St. Martin and she puts a small statue of him in her window when she needs a nice day. Most times it works!!

@Marilynda1225 They are nice legends, very possibly an unusual weather situation that was repetitive through the years started the legend.

Is that Saint Martin of Tours? I wrote a little about him (and another Saint Martin, whose feast day is 3rd November) in an article - 'Catholic Saints Feast Days - November' - as part of a series on Vocal.
Local to me (well, one of our neighbouring counties) there is a cathedral dedicated to Saint Martin. As with many other cathedrals, it is better known by its city name than its saint's name.

In California getting warmer isn’t always considered an advantage. WE have had some rain so at least the fire danger has lessened.
