We gave away our dresser

We recently downsized to a much smaller home and had to get rid of much of our furniture. We had trouble trying to sell an oak dresser and eventually offered it for free to any of the extended family who might like it.
One niece was keen to have it but couldn’t fit it in her entryway. Then Vince’s younger brother expressed an interest so today we separated the three parts and loaded it into his and our cars. We are going to his place later today for a barbecue as it is his birthday and we will help him unload them at that point.
It is a shame we couldn’t keep it but with a small house, there are limits.

Oh, yes, I understand about having to downsize. We hated to move into this house. We had to give away half our furniture and a lot of things we'd stored in the garage at the other house.
I'm sorry you couldn't fit the dresser into your house. That's a beautiful piece of furniture.

@JudyEv I understand... Our living room still looks cluttered with the few items we did keep for it. *sigh*

@DaddyEvil - I understand. We gave away a lot of things to our daughters, and I still feel like our living room is cluttered.

My husband made me several pieces, that a hundred years from now will likely be displayed on a future‘Antiques Roadshow’ they were so beautiful and unique. Blacksmithed bed frame with a peacocks tail inspired headboard. An ornamental mirror frame, solid wood table with ironwork legs …..ah

I am glad you could keep it in the family. I like the horses on it.

@JudyEv that doesn’t look like a lot; the dresser does have limited space for them. Are they Breyer horses?

@Aquitaine24 I have many more in other places. Most are Beswicks. Here is the majority of them in our other house.

That's true but now I'm happy because my BIL is thrilled with it.

@JudyEv - We had to downsize when we moved into our retirement community, too. We gave a bedroom set to one of our daughters, our formal living room furniture to another, and our breakfast furniture and an extra patio table to a third. Afterwards, when we went to visit them, I joked that we were visiting our furniture, not our kids!

@JudyEv - Yes, I do enjoy seeing my furniture in our daughter's homes. It makes me feel like we made good purchases when we originally bought the things. Some of the furniture has lasted a very long time! At least I know it hasn't ended up in landfills, somewhere.

That is a nice dresser. Anyone would be glad to have it I would think. I have two large full size dressers..I really think I need them both though. I did sell a large full sized bookcase though when I was hoping to move before.

Is that antique? The wood looks strong and good quality

It is a nice piece. It's a pity it is quite so big.
