Officially a Grandma.

I never thought I will be a grandma at 45.
I know that there might be some younger than me who might be grandparents already. So, officially I am a grandma now with my husband's nephew's son. His name is Ralph Riley. He is one week old now.
I just have a question. How do grandparents are called in your place?
In my country, the grandmother is called Lola, and the grandfather is called Lolo. But I do not want to be called that.
Any suggestions?

You wouldn't be called a grandparent here but that's okay. Grandma, Grandpa, Nanna, Poppa, Pop - those are some of the names given to grandparents in Australia. There are others but it depends on the culture. For Dutch people, I think it is Oma and Opa.

Congratulations.
Here people go by Papa, Pops or Grandpa.
Our son, who will make us grandparents next year, refers to my hubby as Granddaddy.
Grandmothers go by Grandma or Nana for the most part.
Our daughter-in-law is Polish and her mother is Bubsha.

@rakski When our first grandchild was learning to talk, I tried to teach her how to say grandma (very unimaginative!), but she couldn't say it. It came out Caca and that's what I've been ever since!

The baby when he starts to talk can call you by your first name if you do not want to be called Grandma. Here in Israel in Hebrew the Grandmother is Savta and Grandfather Saba. You could be called Nana and your first name. I almost forgot congratulations.

Congratulations for that. That is a bridge you have crossed in life. To be a grandma is not a joke. It's cost the hand of God for you to be that.

Wow you are that young to be a grandma. I thought it's your son/daughter that is a parent already. But anyway I think that it is something you cannot avoid since there are many that becomes parents before you're supposed to be called officially a senior citizen.

I was grandmother in my late 40s, helped by being a mother in my late teens. I asked to be called Gran Marion but only a few followed that, most choose to call me simply 'gran'. I have seven grandchildren.

I am Noni but pronounced by my grandkids as Nonnie. In other countries it's with a long o sound. My ex-husband is called Popi (poppy.) My oldest grandson will call me grandmother when I'm in trouble. My mom was called Nana and I called my own grandma and grandpa.Congratulations!
