Filling in a pleasant afternoon

Over the New Year break, we spent four nights at our friend’s house at Madora Bay in Western Australia. The house there is big by our standards and has five bedrooms all with ensuites. A large balcony is a great place to watch wind-surfers and boats enjoying the waves which is only two streets away.
The photo shows the men playing bocce. At least I think it is bocce. It might be petanque or boule but whatever it is, they enjoyed filling in an hour or so playing on the lawn. Out of sight, the rest of the party were sitting down enjoying a glass of wine and some nibbles.
We took our corn toss boards and enjoyed playing that too. We made our own boards and bean bags after playing it in France. We had never heard of it before that.

@JudyEv They only play petanque in France. The main differences in pétanque vs. bocce are the balls and the throwing techniques used in each game. In bocce, the balls are heavier and must be thrown like a bowling ball with a few forward steps. Pétanque can be played on any flat, open space. Bocce must be payed on a dedicated playing areas that are enclosed in boards or some other barriers.

Corn toss has become popular fairly recently I think. Lots of fun to play.

@JudyEv I've never played bocci but I agree that corn toss is fun and easier. My neighbor has a corn toss and during the summer weekends they would be outside playing and laughing. It's great for all ages

@Marilynda1225 There is always quite a yell when a bag drops through the hole.

@wolfgirl569 Actually, that would count for a lot although you might still have to quarantine somewhere for a few days. But we'd take you in and you could quarantine here.

Cornhole toss seems very popular in the US. Players take turns throwing bean bags at raised boards which have holes in the far ends. A bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the board scores 1 point. There are two boards. You throw one way first then walk up that end and throw back to the other board.
It's a simple game but lots of fun.

In the southern US we call the bean bag board toss game “corn hole.” Because we’re weird.
Sounds like you had a wonderful New Year’s holiday!!

@FourWalls He is indeed but he wasn't the only one. I think Horse was involved too but I might be mistaken there.

Boy that looks like a nice house and yard. We call that game cornhole here in the States. I've never played it. I'm glad you had a good time.
