Haunted by a song

Have you ever been haunted by a song, one that you find yourself singing on and off all day long? It is pleasant at first but eventually all the pleasure is lost because it is impossible to stop singing it. The song which has haunted me all day is 'Greensleeves'. The weird thing is that it is a16th century song which I probably learned at school, but not one I have given much thought to ever since. so why has it popped up now? It is not the kind of song I like to sing, I like a bit of rock and roll. I have not got rid of it even now, late evening. Perhaps sharing it with you will exorcise the ghost. Have you ever been haunted by a song that you really do not wish to sing?

I think I must be misunderstanding something... Are you trying to convince us you learned the song "Greensleeves" in the 16th century? My daughter, Pretty, keeps telling me to stop singing "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" but insists it's the song she's objecting to, not my voice.

You should be an editor in your spare time DE! I can understand Pretty's objections, that song has passed its sell by date and so might you if you don't man up to the latest rap or RNR trending in the States for the New Year...

@41CombedaleRoad I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to make fun of your English! Uhm... some people on myLot know I edit manuscripts before they're sent in to be published...

@41CombedaleRoad I can't stand rap because it isn't "music". Pretty listens to rock, but I don't normally listen to any music. The songs I sing were learned when I was a child. (Somewhere close to the 16th century. )

@41comberdaleroad Oh yes. Mostly kids songs from when mine were young and it’s so irritating. I remember having a “little fishy in a little fishy till the boat comes in” for days on end.

My daughter kept singing "Monkeys Jumping on a Bed" for days on end. She even had my friends singing it when she wasn't around. It was hilarious!

'Dance to your daddy my little laddie' oh yes I remember it well. I hope I don't swap it for Greensleeves although it is a lot more cheerful!

@41CombedaleRoad My wife plays piano and some of her playing lingers with me, though in a pleasing way. If she ever plays Greensleeves I’ll remember your post!

Absolutely. I won't even mention the title because it will get it going in my head. There's always music playing in my head, but most of the time it's songs I like or at least can tolerate.

I think music must be going around in my head too because I often wake up with a song waiting for me to wake up and sing it.

They often call them 'ear-worms'. I get them too from time to time. I heard Greensleeves just the other day on an ice-cream van.

Yes I read that the icecream vans play it. The tradition is that Henry VIII wrote it to Anne Boleyn when she spurned him but the story did not have a happy ending when she spurned him no longer.

I even repeated the same song almost every day for 8 months, is that too?

That must be a record unless it was a love song and you had just fallen in love?

@41CombedaleRoad It's a song about letting go of love, it doesn't suit my feelings, but I like it because there's a spanish part..

No. I've had a few ear worms, but nothing that's quite like that.

I know what you mean, I am hunted by a song from two days. It was pleasant at first, but it is becoming annoying.
