An over-decorated Christmas cake!

Meant to show you this before - this is what happens when you let the family loose with the Christmas cake decorations! The girls are not keen on eating Christmas cake, and my partner and I can never agree on what sort and how much icing it should have (in my opinion only the barest minimum to keep the marzipan from drying out, while in his opinion only the thinnest possible layer of marzipan is needed to make the thick layer of icing stick!) But anyway we make one every year so that we can all stir the mixture and make a wish, as is traditional, and then when the time comes we can decorate it. This year we all went a bit crazy with the decorations. Everyone wanted to add their personal favourite Father Christmas (or two) - we ended up with ten! One with a list, one with a sack, one bringing an armful of gifts, one with a candle, one on a toboggan, one going down a chimney, one riding a reindeer - all different styles and eras. Then on top of that the cake ended up with a small forest, a herd of reindeer, several snowmen, a house, some Christmas roses and poinsettias, a robin and a few ‘Merry Christmas’ slogans. Several of those decorations date from my childhood and a few even from my mother’s childhood (almost a hundred years ago now!) Then a few gold sugar balls were sprinkled around for good measure.
