I just watched a video on Autophagy. Autophagy is our body’s way of cleaning out damaged cells. It helps to regenerate healthier cells. It can be done in a simple way by observing fast of 16 hours. Eating within the 8 hours and rest of the time drink water and allow the body to do the cleaning process. However, this kind of fasting must be done with doctor’s advice if there is any health issues . I think we can treat our body by ourselves for making it healthier by this way. THe eating order will be as follows: Breakfast at 9.30 am Lunch at 2 pm or before Dinner at 5.30 pm How many of you are valuing our body’s health and observe fast for a better health? Have a great weekend to all. Take care.

Here I am telling about keeping us starve for 16 hours. So that our body get enough time to repair and remove all the dirt within the body. I do not think skipping one time meal as considered as fast.

I have breakfast at 6, lunch at noon and dinner at 7 pm, this means I stay 13 hours without food every 24 hours.

12 hours fasting is also good for us. Dinner should be light if you eat late. That is all. But I understood for you 13 hours fasting is enough.

@LadyDuck We, Indians, especially from South part have the habit of eating late at night, heavy, compensating the day time food. But realizing the habit as bad, I have changed my habit much earlier. Even if I eat late on any unavoidable situation then I eat very less.

@Sreekala We never have heavy dinner and it is our Italian habit to eat at 7/7:30 pm and never earlier. I have never been sick, the last time I had a flu was 1969.

What if you work the swing or graveyard shift? The only times I've ever fasted were the days before a surgery.

I can understand, as many people are doing different types of works. But if they can plan accordingly or according to their work time. The only thing we have to take care the gap in between, it will be good 12 hours, 14 hours and will be great if it is 16 hours.

@Vikingswest1 According to the doctor it would be great if you can make it as life style but doing it once in a week also has its effect. I do not fast these days after developing acidity problems. But I try to have my dinner earlier and breakfast late. But can't follow this on regular basis too.

@Sreekala Is this a schedule that is permanent or just when fasting? Do you fast once a month, a few times a year or something else?

There are enough scientific evidences to suggest that fasting does bring good effects on our health if done in the right way. I am diabetic. But I do fast for five days twice a year ( the two Navratri that we have). These five days I go for two meals a day and that too of only fruits and clear vegetable juice. I do it under my doctor's and dietician's supervision and we do it to detoxify my body. Other than that, I go for an early dinner around 7-7:30 and my next meal is breakfast at 8:3.0. So, every day I go for 12 hours fasting. This has helped me a lot

That means people who have diabetic problem also can do fast. I understood, it should be done only under medical supervision. I think regular fasting on 12 hours also can do wonders to our body.

@Sreekala Yes, in fact it is a myth that diabetics can not fast. In fact many diabetes reversal program rely on fasting but done in a scientific way under medical supervision. I keep my doctor and dietician on board with my sugar reports and adjusting my insulin dosage when I am fasting. It should be properly supervised. Diabetics can not go for feasting. Fasting has been proved to be beneficial for them too.

I learned about autophagy through a series of videos and talks by Ari Whitten It was very interesting and made a lot of sense. Thanks for the great reminder - that its a great time for the body to do repair work. Makes me think Psalm 139:15 I praise you because in an awe-inspiring way I am wonderfully made

To have dinner at 5:30 pm is too early. We usually take it at 8:30 pm.

I agree 5.30 pm is too early can't follow especially by working people. If you eat dinner at 8.30 pm then next day break fast can be delayed accordingly to get a 16 hours gap.

If the systems are all working correctly this will work good. I tried the one meal a day rubbish..it gave me severe health problems. No good, it is not normal to deprive oneself of nutrients when they are available. Damaging effects. A short fast is okay in my opinion.

I agree, if a person has not any health issues then can go this way without any problem. Those who are diabetic and acidity problems should consult a doctor before doing such fasts.

I've always preferred to eat 2 meals a day, but these last 2-3 years I took it up a notch and only eat once a day, thus fasting anywhere between 20-30 hours every day (my OMAD meal timing fluctuates). When I got Covid I fasted for 3 days straight and the autophagy benefits were incredible. I'm definitely doing these extended fasts again once in a while.
