Can't Ride!

I can't ride! Is there anyone else on Mylot who cannot ride a bike? As a child learning to ride a bike never interested me. In my spare time l was either reading, taking walks in the woods - or playing with my dolls. Now it is much too late to even consider it. At least l can ride the stationary bike at the gym. At what age did you learn to ride a bike? And what kind of a child were you --quiet, noisy, playful, troublesome? Pixabay image

It’s never too late to learn how to ride a bike. I learned when I was 5, and ride almost every day in Florida. It’s too hilly where I live in Connecticut.

I would hate to fall and break something. I'll probably just stick with the stationary bike.

I remember taking my brothers' bikes and pushing them up a nearby hill and then gliding down the hill well before I could reach the pedals on them. I come from a large family so there were always bikes to ride but I also rode our horses all over the countryside, swam in the creek that ran through our property or sitting quietly in a tree reading all day. (I borrowed books from all the neighbors that lived around us and made something of a nuisance of myself going from house to house asking if they'd gotten any new ones since the last time I'd been there. Our closest neighbors were a km from us either direction.)

@Kandae11 I was just a kid looking for things to do. Yeah, the neighbors were always nice.

We were each given a new bicycle after completing grade one. I took great care of mine, and although I had a few tumbles, I used to try to keep it looking shiny and new. We were not taught to ride our bikes with training wheels, and we all did just fine.

Love riding my bike to this day. I no longer have a car and use my bike for everything. I must have learned to ride about 60 years ago!

I can, although I have not ridden a bike in many years. I can't remember how old I was. Back when I was a kid there wasn't really such a thing as training wheels, nor were there small bikes, so I had to wait until I was big enough to ride a regular sized one. I was probably 6 or 7. As for the kind of kid I was? Holy smokes. I was a tyrant. lol

I was about 15 when I learned but it's a small bike where I can step on my foot when I go off balanced. I cannot ride the big bikes.

I learned at 10. I can't ride one now. The only one I can ride is the stationary bike, like you.

I can't ride a bike. I always had a pony to ride on the farm and there wasn't anywhere really suitable for bike-riding.

I suppose you would have learned to ride one if the area was suitable. Or riding a bike simply didn't interest you.

I learned as a small child with training wheels. Would you be willing to try at all? Or is it possible? Honestly, now in my situation and my bones not as good as they used to be, even me, who could ride like the wind, would be very wary of riding a bicycle now. I do not need any injuries. My son is destroyed permanently with a severe injury he got from doing stunts on a bicycle in his early 20s.

@Kandae11 Glad you are safe then Kandase, I understand. Thank you for my son. It is a very sad shame it happened to him at all.

Wow! Very sorry about your son. The only bike l will be riding at this stage in my life would be the stationary one at the gym. I missed out but it is not the end of the world.

I learnt to ride a bike when I was 13. I used to ride it a lot when I lived in the north of Germany which is completely flat. The only problem there is the wind which seems to always come from the front no matter which way you're going! Now I live in the south of Germany. The town is slighty hillly and riding a bike uphill is exhausting. I stopped doing it some years ago because I felt insecure, and if this is the case, the chances of falling off the bike increase.
