Too much choice!

About three years ago, we had an Italian lodger. When she left, she had too much to carry so she left a lot of toiletries behind, mainly hair products, and of course, not wanting to throw things away unnecessarily, I have been using them ever since.
One of the things she left was a little bottle of some sort of linseed oil hair treatment. It obviously came from Italy so I have never seen it in the shops here, but I rather liked it - just a little smear made my hair wonderfully shiny and tangle free. Now it’s almost finished I thought I might look for something similar.
So yesterday I went to a beauty store to see what I could find. Of course I couldn’t find the same thing. But I did find rows and rows of hair-care products. Shampoos, conditioners to wash out, conditioners to leave in, hair masques (which as far as I can see are basically conditioners you leave in rather longer before washing out!), oils and sprays, colour-enhancing and detangling treatments.
I must have spent about 20 minutes in there looking at all the different options but in the end I didn’t buy any - how on Earth does anyone choose? Of course every tub or bottle claims to be the best ever product. Unless you just stumble upon something by accident you could spend years trying out all the likely-sounding treatments! How did you find what you like?

We kept trying them all, year by year, until we found what works for us... and then it was taken off the market or the manufacturer closed shop.
Now we use what our hair dresser tells us to use.

@Fleura Unless you ask, most hair dressers won't suggest what you should be using on your hair. Or at least, that's been our experience.

@DaddyEvil When I have been in the past, I seem to remember that they always had their preferred brand (or sponsored brand?) prominently displayed around the salon, presumably so that you would subconsciously pick up on that and then buy it later even if you didn't buy it from them.

I remember back in the late 70s when grocery stores became "supermarkets" There was so much choice I sometimes wouldn't buy anything because I felt intimidated.

Fleur this makes me want to go research and find that just for you. Or find an herbal recipe for something similar you can make at home. What is in it besides linseed oil?

I just buy products that have good ratings and are not too expensive.

I also always waste time looking at many different products of the same kind and end up not buying anything only because I just want the best and I'm not sure which one will work for me.

@Fleura yes it will. I personally won't try all of them. I might try two or three and that's it.

Sadly you can't find any alternatives to that linseed oil hair treatment ,though there is a superb collection of hair-care products there.

What I normally do is to read buyers' reviews from different sites and make my own conclusions on which brand of product to buy.
