Differing Tastes

One good thing about living on my own is that I can watch whatever I want to on the television. When my husband was alive I watched very little because our tastes differed so widely. In his latter years TV was his main source of entertainment so I never argued. I didn't care enough to get another TV - I had my computer and puzzles etc. so I was quite happy. Anyway now I can please myself. My favourite programmes are documentaries, especially about nature, history or real life situations. I also like quizzes, detective dramas and some sport (not football or boxing). I never watch soap operas, cooking shows, Westerns, house make-over shows or sit-coms, and I turn off anything with too much foul language. Do you and your partner (if you have one) have similar tastes when it comes to TV? Photo is of my amaryllis

When it comes to sports, no, we have totally different tastes, he loves them and I have no interest in them.

@jaboUK I did watch some basketball with my late husband mostly when the Pacers were playing. His favorite. It made him happy if I cheered with him even though I didn't understand it.

I usually read when my wife watched her television shows. I was just not interested in the shows she liked.

You were in a similar situation to me Rob. Do you and Pretty like the same things or do you both keep to your own rooms?

@jaboUK We don't even own a television. We both spend out time talking, reading or watching videos on our computers in our own rooms. When our internet goes out, I have a gazillion movies on an external hard drive and we watch those until the internet is fixed.

I am so sorry, never knew your husband passed. Nah, me singles for life. I do not think there is a women on earth who could put up with my lifestyle. I could conform a bit but do I want to, Hell No Why I have much respect for people who can pull off that feat.

My husband and I have similar tastes when it comes to TV. We both like detective stories, very old "films noirs", documentaries and real life situations. We both hate soap operas and stay away from cooking shows. He likes some westerns and this is the kind of films that I cannot stand. Your amaryllis are gorgeous.

@jaboUK - I wanted to buy a bulb of amaryllis for Christmas, but we avoided to go shopping, so I missed when they were available.

You're lucky that you have a lot of shows that you both like, and your tastes seem similar to mine. Glad you like the amaryllis - a friend gave it to me as a bulb in a pot at Christmas and it has now just come into full flower.

@LadyDuck I've never had one before - truth to tell I'm not all that keen on pot plants, but this one is gorgeous.

@jabouk And what a pulchritudinous looking Amyrillis it is too! I rarely watch TV and my wife is in charge of it anyway. I don’t know how to work it.

I too never watched much TV until now. It was always on in my house but I always left the kids or a husband watch while I worked or read some of my many, many books I had. Now I watch about 80 percent of my time. No sports, hardly ever documentaries. Mostly comedy, some drama, and catching up on all the shows I missed in the past.

Beautiful amaryllis, this was mom's favorite flower. Lucky me, Roscoe doesn't care what I watch so I try to find good crime dramas, science fiction shows like star trek or star gate sg1 and once in a while I'll find a movie I like. I watch some documentaries about nature, history or events on YouTube via my computer but not that often.

Leo loved sports and news. He had a tv in the bedroom to watch and I watched what I liked in the living room. I still watch tv in the living room and everytime I go in the bedroom I feel like I should see him there in his easy chair.

@jaboUK My Mum wanted to watch a programme last night about a guy suffering from long covid! Come on! Why would I want to watch that? I refused and watched Ben Fogel's New Lives In The Wild instead and she was livid! She went in the dining room to watch the other programme but not until it was over half way through so she missed half of it anyway!

Beautiful amaryllis! I don't watch much tv for the most part. We "can" have similar tastes, but I just can't sit there to watch a screen for a long time. But if I'm not going to watch, then he'll put on the stuff he really enjoys watching (historical stuff, documentaries, etc).

My wife likes serials which are too long drawn and over dramatic for my taste. We do watch sports together. Then when it comes to you tube videos, we watch them separately but tell each other what are good to watch.
